For the amount of time involved, and because you have to bash the shit out of your firewall... and the weight... and you are putting an OLDER engine in... why bother?

At least do a M50, but even that is teh suck.

it does make sense to say why swap to an older engine but hey if ya want to do it. I wouldnt go with an older engine but I would do what I wanted with ym car. Jordan and any other naysayers are just gonna be here, do what ya want.

(rolling eyes....) My m30 is awesome. There is NO compairing it to a m50. You just can't beat the grunt of the 3.5 liters.
The firewall mod can't bee seen once the motor is in place and has no adverse effects on the car.. Also - the m30b35 was used till 1989(?). It's not exactly an older motor considering e30's went till 1991.

The cost is about that of a nice m20 build up. Plus you get a timing chain, 3.5L and a LOT of future potential(boost, ect...)

Oh - And I think they look preaty DAM good...

Well, is there a big difference in acceleration compared to the M20? Do you really feel a big difference? i know there is a weight difference, and you dont HAVE to break the firewall.. (unless you're trying to get the exhaust past the passenger footboards)

I mean, i'm already a few grand into the project, so i've gotta finish it. Anybody had any bad experiences with a swap like this?

I had my mind set on doing a S38 for a while. BUT after researching, looking @ prices, etc I have decided against it. I figure the $$ saved can be better used into a S50/2.
Them S38 ARE one sick freakin engine though

Personally compared to the other non motor sport engin swaps, I believe the M30 swap is the best suited for the e30, for all you nay sayers you've never drivin one have you? I didn't think so.
I didn't even notice the extra weight, it isn't that much heavier despite what everyone thinks.

it really isn't that much heavier... it's only like an extra 50lbs in the front end..... anybody notice a difference with a JC chip? or any noticeable difference from any chip for that matter?
