I can't drive a car with pushrods. I don't want something to go wrong and a pushrod fly into my face.

Compare this to even lsx e30 swaps. engine is far back in the bay, and have plenty of room on the sides to work on stuff, and it keeps the COG in the same place as the m42, only they put out almost 2x the power in stock form...

if it ain't broke don't fix it...i get it. i'm not arguing that the SBC motor isn't one of the best ever designed, just that there's so many slight variations of it over the last 40 or so years that i find them a little boring.
don't get me wrong, i'd love to rag on a zr1 or ls powered e30. :)Comment

Sounds like a sweet engine to me. OHC's require a lot of room, especially DOHC's on a V8. And with that comes a lot more $$$... Timing chains, tensioners, guides, four cams, etc... Making maintenance and modifications stupid expensive.
If I had this much room in my engine bay, I wouldn't know what to do. There's room for about 8 turbo's, a 12 core radiator, a front differential, and some room to store luggage as well!
For comparison... The non-existent free space in my engine bay:

Not only that, but that tiny little motor does 201hp STOCK, too bad it only has 221 ft/lb - like I said, though, we have gotten 270whp/265wtq with cam, porting, headers and a tune...nice to think about it only weighing 300-ish with headers. Will have to weigh the next one in race trim, the one I weighed at 340lbs, again, had the stock cast exhaust on it. also nice thing about pushrod engines, ONLY HAVE TO BUY ONE CAM!!! :D Even roller cams only run about $300 or so.Sounds like a sweet engine to me. It's like a pushrod prodding at my heart...I try not to think about it anymore.
I do yearn for that Mopar muscle from time to time, but I'm too stuck in BMW land to get out, for now. Plus too, old Mopars are soooo expensive. Ugh.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5Comment

LOL What?!?!?!? Now you must be one of the guys on here that live under a rock! Seeing that there are so many variations of the 1st gen SBC, they very in form from high HP to a boat anchor! I do got to ask, what wasn't reliable about them? And every Hot Rodder, drag racer and anyone who has been in the domestic car scene would get a kick out of it not shining till 1997Just an FYI, the one on the right is a gen1 SBC. Which is a horribly reliable motor, but does not make a lot of power without a good chunk of change. The gen3/4/5 motors have incredibly similar footprints but share no parts whatsoever. Literally nothing interchanges. The bellhousing bolt pattern is only thing that is the same and even that uses different thread bolts. SAE vs Metric. The awesomeness that is the SBC really didn't start shining until '97. Before that it was mainly, 'lets just throw more fuel at it until it's awesome!' Which works, but is probably where most of this "old technology" mantra comes from.
Haha. Hell, I didn't even look close enough. That's a FORD small block on the right.
You call yourself a GM fan boy. But seems that you know nothing beyond the newer LS series.

You post just to post. All of a sudden you don't like the Mopar because pushrods are brought up.That car is gone and so are the memories with it.

Oh, and as far as bringing back the RPO code (name of motor aka lt1), GM has done that for every generation. First gen ls6 was a 454, first gen lt1 was a 350 etc etc.Comment
