I test drove the Tesla S today and holy shit was it awesome. You know when the first IPhone came out and you knew it would change everything? That's how the Tesla S felt. The torque is amazing, the 17" touchscreen is amazing, the handling is amazing, the suspension and steering feel was Porsche like. The review below is spot on. Definitely worth the money if you could afford it and not because it's an electro car, because it is an awesome car all around.

The Tesla Model S is all new. According to Tesla, it is built on a dedicated platform that was designed from the start as an electric car, not an adaptation of another vehicle’s chassis. The company’s first car, the Roadster, was based on the Lotus Elise exotic car.

Based on the fact that my friend helped to design the Model S and not just adapt a structure for it, and that Telsa bought GM/Toyota's old NUMMI plant to make the Model S, I would say that you are wrong:

It is heavy but it feels planted because all the weight is under your feet. 50/50 weight distribution and really low center of gravity make it way more fun than a comparable M5.

ICE's feel so primitive after driving a Tesla. Imagine going back to a Nokia flip phone after using a smart phone. You can get on their email list and schedule a test drive. I'd highly recommend it. If you live near a showroom at least stop by and check out the features.

I am a huge fan of Tesla and Elon Musk. I personally believe that battery technology is the next big thing and Tesla has done a great job of plowing the way. Their roadster could do 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and a range of about 250 miles on a single charge (basically once a week for average commuter). This was leaps and bounds ahead of what most people were doing with batteries.

The Model S sedan has an effective range of 300 miles and mid five second 0-60. I Think in time his cars will only get better

As battery technology catches up on the large scale, this will happen.

Electric vehicles have already completely demolished gas in the R/C world. There are electric rc cars doing 100+mph all over the place, and on the race tracks you are able to run a full race on a single li-po without the slightest loss in power until the battery is completely run dry. Li-po is dangerous right now, but they are incredible.

Small scale, electric has taken over. It is only a matter of time before it makes it's way to full scale. Honestly, I cannot wait. No internal combustion engine can compete with the instant torque and rotation potential of an electric motor.
