Buying a new car...dont puke please.

I landed a job, or as long as the training goes well, its mine. Looking at 40k a year with a 30-45 minute commute depending on traffic.

Not driving the e30 for that and not driving my POS eclipse thats ready to die either.

So I decided a good, imported w/warranty would be a good idea. Friend of mine has a corolla and its nice and all but uglyyyy. Some of the certified hondas are $$$ with only a little warranty left.

So I looked at Hyundai and I like the newer body styles, 2011-2013. The certified Elantras land right in my budget, 14-17k with at most I saw around 35k miles. That leaves me with 65k and possibly 9 years on the warranty.

I test drove an Elantra and a 2 door accent, remember Im only looking for eco and warranty. If I can squeeze a bit of "newish" stlying in the deal thats even better.


I went to the dealership I like around me to see what Elantras they had and saw a 4 door Accent. Its a dark blue with black trim around grey cloth. 2013 2250 miles on it.

HERES THE CATCH: Someone bought it in August and returned it in October......should I be worried? The car is barely broken in.

It actually has some pep to it and also has a 6 speed tranny with "sporttronic" shifting. Was fun down shifting into a turn. I can probably see 30mpg realistically..not 40.

Anyone know anything on the Hyundais? Anything to watch for? Besides the news release of them beefing the mpg ratings......I know the warranty is long as shit, the dealership includes loaner vehicles on anything other then an oil change(which come free)..

Was considering an e46 3 series..No warranty, spending more up front, less mileage, and repairs are way more expensive...Ill be spending out of my ass for repairs. Certified BMWs are $$$$ and Im looking to stash most of my paychecks to get out on my own...not drive in style. I dont mind spending the money on the vert....that can always be put on hold, not my dd.

The car needs to be on the road with a warranty or else this GREAT entry level job will not be worth it once I get fired for car problems.

As far as Im concerned Nissans are blah and I used to hate all of the old Hyundais but Ive driven in a Sonata and Elantra...both new and they are actually nice.

The cruzes aren't worth it unless you spend the money on the turbo model, we're again over my budget.

Its going to commute to my work every day. Ill be stacking the mileage if my boss gets what he wants...He thinks Ill do very well with the company, so do I. Eventually I'll be commuting to North Jersey 5 days a week. He will be compensating me for the commute but a lease wouldn't work I believe.

Should I consider a vw? I like the GTI but Idk....Jettas are girl cars, thats set in stone. Passat maybe? Mileage isn't there though.

No real need to buy a $17K "eco, cheap" car...a 37+MPG 2005 Mercedes E320 CDI is around $17K and is also pretty reliable since its diesel...looks good too

theres really nothing wrong with that hyundai. Its built to serve one purpose. get people from point a to point b efficiently.

Its basically a throw away eco box. drive it into the ground then junk it. thats what these cars are built for.

I've heard great things about the Mazda 3 sedans. Some people don't like the "smiley-face" looks, but I like happy cars. Good reliability, good economy (especially with the newer skyactiv motors), and decent performance. If I had to buy a new car, I'd look there.

= 3+ years worth of warranty, tires will be cheap. Hyundai sounds like a good deal.

I totally hear that..but consider this. Ive grown up only driving 75k and up vehicles. Eventually my relationship with these cars have been: OK its starting to show its age and then wow this repair is f**king expensive.

I HATE having to drop a shit ton of money on a repair. Finding a used, UGLY, corolla is impossible near me. Everything is marked up and on some used auto lot that blows cigarette smoke in your face. Literally had that happen two weeks ago looking at a few used cars.

"pretty reliable" and 10 year 100k warranty is a totally different story..

EXACTLY what I want to do...by the time I want to get rid of it...I'll be living on my own and have a decent income. Either working with the same company or with a different one because of the experience and certifications this new job is offering.

I really don't mind the point a to b idea, and love the fact I can drive it into the ground with free oil changes lol...brakes, tires and wipers don't bother me...

This accent sedan I'm looking at is a 2013 with 2250 miles on it. Someone bought it in August and returned it in October...no idea why. Prob cause its too small.

It has 97750 miles left and 10 years on the warranty. With my commute Ill probably see 6-8 years of that warranty depending on if my commute changes...
