    stop buying fake sh^t!

Just had to post this up after spending the better part of my week off ripping apart my friends sr20. After purchasing a ebay wastegate (a tial copy) that he was so proud of his engine blew. Why? Cause the cheap copy stuck and his engine got close to 30lbs of boost. The moral of the story, his saving a couple bucks cost him an engine. It really pisses me off when I see posts where people are telling each other to just go buy the knockoff part from ebay. It's just as good isn't it? No it is not. Real parts from real companies are designed and engineered with tight tolerances, particular metal alloys, ect.. Basically there designed to work correctly. Where as the china copy is just that, a copy. It's made to look like the real thing, not to work like it. Guys wonder why companies don't make cool stuff for our cars, why should they if it's just going to get copied and sold for half the price. And all you cheap asses are going to buy the copy instead of the real thing. If you can't afford the good stuff, save up money. Don't just get the knock off. You want legit parts from legit companies, stop buying the fake stuff. The only person you have to blame for not having good parts available is you. Don't care if it engine parts, suspension, whatever. All buying fake stuff does is ruin the industry and hobby. And in alot of cases puts your own and others safety at risk. Rant over.

I bought knockoff M pedals for my E30 for $50 new, is my engine going to blow up now? Should i get rid of them and pay $500 for real ac shnitzer pedals instead?

Have a better question what happens when the known manufacturer starts making them in China to save a few bucks.

This seems to be happening with many companies.

I think the moral of the story is more like, your friend needs to learn to watch his gauges... Cause even brand name parts can fail too.

well you're talking about two different products...the ACS pedals don't have the M emblem on them....but if you had ebay ACS, then yes you should have gotten rid of them to get the real things.

So the ebay part on your friends car DIDNT break. The rest of the engine was what broke?

Not being sarcastic just not very knowledgeable on turbos and how they are setup, but when you say the wastegate 'stuck', I am assuming it was intact where as the head/block blew?

If that is the case, I would argue that the ebay part was one hell of a buy and your buddy was to blame for not knowing the limits of the car.

I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

How about titling this thread "Why not to buy fake shit", relay your friend's (stupid) story as a buyer beware, and let people use their own judgement. To issue a commandment of "stop buying fake shit!", no matter how you try to justify it, is irritating.

I know you're trying to play devils advocate, but if a wastegate gets stuck closed, then it has failed.

People will always be willing to buy cheap junk just because it's cheap and looks almost the same. I've been down that road enough times to know better. I don't have the time to mess around redoing things more than once because I wanted to save $100 on a part.

hell as it is, I have boxes and boxes of genuine parts I haven't used yet because I don't have the time to do anything with them.

That's really weird that that happened because 1) I've never heard of eBay shit breaking and 2) I've never heard of 240 kids using cheap parts on their cars. Are you sure you didn't just make this all up?

Ohh damn it makes sense now that it's called a wasteGATE and it got stuck. Learned something new. Also correct me if I am wrong but isn't 30lbs of boost like excessive? It sounds like a lot to me.

Depends on where you measure it at, how the engine it built to handle it, etc, etc.
