Wheel bearing in Denver. Good guess though.

Made it through the pass - sketchy as hell.

    Anyone in Denver?

p.s. thanks everyone for the replies. I did know the risks, yes. What I didn't know was the true state of the car. I asked the seller what was wrong with it so that I could even bring out parts with me in anticipation of the trip. I was assured it was in good condition, but when I showed up there were a bunch of 'oh, by the ways' including the shifter bushings completely gone and possible some sort of mounting plate, windshield washer motor, control arm bushings, wheel bearings, door locks, windows, dashboard falling off, etc. etc. etc. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I had already committed a downpayment to the car and hadn't booked a contingency plane flight. Should have in hindsight.

Oh, and I had the car for less than an hour when the key broke off in the lock. Yeah...

not necessarily *an* e30, but *this* one- question stands, when you have time to answer it.

i would crosspost this to e3t for you, but honestly, the regional forums there are a confusing mess.

        good luck.

Good Luck Dude! Sad the car wasn't as advertised but by the time you and your car get home you'll be traveling buddies.

Somebody buy me a beer and I'll start in on my non-boring-ass transcontinental car stories.

Hello fine R3V Limited people. I got back to Canada late last night and have been running around all day. I had started another thread a few days after this one because, well, I did run into problems. In Denver.

Since this thread is a bit more general, I'm going to try to field a few questions (valid too).

Okay, why not local? Simple reason, there aren't any worth buying. There is one (1) in my area, and it's rusted out.

Why not more local than cross-country? A few reasons actually. One, rust. This car doesn't have any, and the safety cert. people here will fail you at the sight of it. I'm also not skilled in body work, so getting into something that's seen 25+ years of east-coast salt isn't what I'm looking to get into. Utah, despite salting their roads, doesn't see as much salt as here, an by the looks of things, this car was garage kept and not driven much lately.

So why the cross-country trek? Why this specific western car? Well, I've never been to Utah before and I knew someone in Salt Lake. I also had two weeks off school, so I figured it would be a cool opportunity to see some of the country, do some skiing, and get a cool car while I'm at it. All of which happened (sort of).

A second 'why this car', well - it has had some suspension, wheels, and tires done. I'm not building a racer, so I thought the mild modifications would suit my needs. In actual fact, I got taken advantage of considering the long, long list of things which don't work. Live and learn.
