Chevy Cruze- does not suck that much

    Assumptions:

    1. It's no E30
    2. It is FWD
    3. It is not German
    4. In no way am I comparing this to a BMW or attempting any and all extended allegories that could even in the remotest of interpretations be thought to say ill of a 20 year old car vs. this car (Chevy Cruze)

    That being said...

I have to travel a lot for my job, and with that comes an endless array of rental cars that generally suck balls on a level that makes even Perez Hilton seem straight. The Sentra, the Versa, the Malibu, the Altima, and the Stratus/200 have all been cars that make me weep for my E46. The worst car by far in my opinion though is the Corolla. What a total piece if shit! However, on my latest trip to Kansas City (the Corolla of US cities) I got a Chevy Cruze from Hertz and low and behold, it didn't suck. Mine had the 1.4 liter turbo which was surprisingly capable of moving the car along. The suspension was reasonably thought out and the interior seemed to be designed by someone who wanted people to not hate their lives after 5 minutes in it. It really was a decent econo-box.

Has anyone else driven one of these? I'm curious to see if R3v has had any experience with the Cruze. I'm not trying to buy one or anything, but compared to POS that was the Cobalt, it seems like GM really stepped up to the plate with this car.

    Discuss.

Dad has a 2012 ECO with the 1.4l and 6-speed. The trans, shifter, and pedal layout is fantastic. It's very ergonomic with a surprisingly sporting feel.

No Daewoo is still alive and well in South Korea. Remember the Aveo? They were made by Daewoo. The Cruze started life as a Daewoo, but Chevy put a lot of effort into making it a modern car.

Couldn't agree more. For what it is, it's a pretty nice car. Decent interior, I personally think they look pretty nice and was a good car for commuting. Certainly not an enthusiasts based car but they aren't bad at all.

Atleast that's where they are assembled. Daewoo helped develop the car. GM owns Daewoo anyways. Still it's a nice car.

The Corolla is awesome, dude! It's like, grounded to the ground, or something. The build quality is also really high. You'll definitely still see a lot of 2013 Corollas on the road in 10 years.

                    :p

I hear you on the rentals. We had an Altima that was horrible. You had to drive it over speed bumps like a stanced out E30 or it would bottom out.

One of the most forward thinking cars Chevrolet has come up with of late. Even though I am generally not a fan of bowties I recommended that my grandmother look at one to replace her disappointingly problematic Fusion.

Holy shit! Just had to take my tundra in for a free frame replacement (thanks toyota) and got a corolla for a loaner. Everything screams cheap cheap cheap - except for the head unit. Actually a decent radio/touch screen/integration system. Glad they threw that in there to take focus off the rest of the car.

Oh yeah not to get off topic but Toyota did a frame recall on first generation Tundras similar to what they did with the tacoma's a few years ago. Instead of doing a buy back they're putting new frames in at no cost. I got my truck in literally the last day they were inspecting for the recall.

I rented one a while back cuz I thought it looked cool in and out. Seating position was nice started up fine (for what it was) and ok to drive. BUT, what a gutless piece of crap! Totally turned me off this car. Weak sauce.
