I think the "tire test" is a bit unfair for other teams. That's why there's the specific rule that does allow testing, but only with cars 2 years older or more. 1000km is A LOT of testing. It's one of those things where either you let everyone test, or none at all.

And I hope Ecclestone gets nailed. I don't see how he cannot since his accomplice has already been found guilty.

The greesy wheel gets the cheese. Although that metaphor never made any sense to me  Ecclestone can throw enough money at this to make it go away if need be I'd wager. But if he steps down who becomes the head of the FIA?

Merc used their current car. Not legal, period. Also in season testing for the tire manufacturer is legal so long as all teams have an equal opportunity to partake. Pirelli apparently did not offer to all teams.

It doesn't really matter to me too much if they are penalized as they haven't been such a contender for race wins and aren't going to have a chance at the championship, but rules were still broken and it sets a dangerous precedent if no action is taken.

Should be a cold, wet practice & qualifying with a warm, sunny race. This could get interesting.

I don't think anyone is going to correlate that 1000km test with Rosberg's victory in Monaco (he drove brilliantly,) but it's surprising to hear that it's being dragged on and on without a verdict. I understand SF had a similar test in their F150 Italia (2011 car) and escaped penalty due to that fact; by contrast, Merc used their 2013 car to aid Pirelli in tire development, or at least that's how the story goes. I think we all know the FIA regs on in-season testing, but this seems to have fallen in a very distinct grey area from my view. Hell, it almost seems like Pirelli bears more responsibility in this matter.

Now it sounds like the FIA is proceeding with an 'International Tribunal', some suspect verdict is pending this weekend's Canadian GP results (mmhmm.) While some team principals have been quoted on the matter, no one has been more vocal about it than RBR (or IRBRR or whatever they've called themselves now.) I think it remains to be seen what Merc gained from the test, a sudden victory at Monaco by one of Formula One's least successful drivers (2 victories in 134 starts currently,) raises an eyebrow or two, but Hamilton's P4 finish seems about average IMO.

So what say ye R3V, lots of bitching or is it a legitimate argument worthy of the "-gate" suffix that the automotive world has given this debacle?
Not sure yet, we will see what comes of the FIA Tribunal.

However, prima facie, it looks incredibly suspicious.

Is it just me or is NBC showing P1 as the "P2" session? They did this to me when I recorded monaco practice.

First off, thoughts go out to the corner worker killed at the Canadian GP today, he was a ten year veteran of the sport from what I read; sounds like it was certainly an unforeseeable incident with a very unfortunate ending. R.I.P.

Pretty good race today, not terribly eventful after the first pit window, but I was glad to see Seb and RBR get some points. I think had Vettel not had the lead that he did, Alonso would have been a major threat towards the end of the race. I hated to see Bottas drop off, but I think he'll eventually get picked up by a powerful team; looking forward to watching that guy drive in the future.
