I've been tracking my ix MPG on each fill up (recording miles driven and gallons used). Some tanks I get upwards of 25, with my highest single tank being 26.16 MPG. Any time I see numbers in the low 20s though, that typically means it was a tank driven mostly on the highway.

I can see "city" tanks as they'll average in the 16-18 MPG range. Overall across all types of trips and all tanks of gas since my ownership, I'm averaging 19.912 MPG.

Since putting in the MarkD chip (and only using 91 or higher octane), I'm averaging 20.67 MPG.

The window sticker from an '88 ix lists 17 City and 23 Highway, so I would say I'm right in there.

I've watched RWD E30 sliding around the local autocross track, but they can be drifted too. My lowered ix feels like a slot car. Not the stickiest tires either, actually pretty hard 100,000 mile rated toyo z800 ultra's. No matter, no matter how hard I rammed it into the corners, it just doesn't slip. I'm actually almost afraid I'll roll it before it would slide out.
But if you want a mpg or two better, and a 150lbs., less weight, then go for that ES.

the guy for the ES wants $3000 which is outrageous and the lady for the ix wants $1800. i have no problem paying her the $1800 for the ix, but if i can get the guy for the es down to 2500 id be fine there to. But im leaning towards the ix now

Just saw the ix is a 91, the es an 86. That, and my love for my own ix, puts my vote on ix.

$3500 for an eta vs $1800 for the ix.. the answer is pretty obvious.

                    +1

I've owned 2 ETA's and they're great for what they are, but they are no IX.

really, the es is easily worth 3k in decent shape. that is not an outrageous price at all. spend your money wisely. look at both cars and make your decision based on what is right for you. you need to understand that you are going to spend 2 to 3x or more on the ix in maint over time. if you can afford it, great. go to town.

apples for apples,(assuming both cars are running right with good o2 sensors and no vacuum leaks) the es should get about 6 mpg better than the ix if you care about that.

if you buy the es, there is really no need for you to keep your 318i. that would just be two redundant cars that you are paying for insurance and registration. spending 400 bucks on some snow tires on extra rims will go a hell of a long way to getting you around better in the winter in a 2wd car.

with the ix, you may be able to get away with one car as well, but if you want to keep it long term, driving it in the winter in your area will make it rust to shit. unfortunately, this means not driving the car during the period of the year it was actually designed for.

obviously, i live in houston, but there is no way in fuck that i would drive the rust free silver car i used to own on a salty street.
