Regardless, I pay $120/yearly for my vanity tag. IL is emissions exempt for anything older than 1994.- Josh

If I wanted to swap out my plates for a less offensive/awesome one I'd have to pay an additional $29 for replacement ones. Vanity tags are only $20 more than regular ones anyways.- Josh

2,000-5,000 miles a year you say? But my car has never left my garage ;)

I still bitch. I think regular tags are $39 yearly, or bi-yearly it's like $69, and tri-yearly it's like $100, but IDK, I never do more than a year at a time...if I remember to register. They quit mailing us reminders.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5

Condition should not matter. You are helping the enviroment by driving a vehicle that was made 20 years ago vs driving a new vehicle and all of the emissions that go into building it.
Historic should be just that, historic. Who cares what condition it is in.
It is a HISTORIC plate, and not an "old thing" plate. It's like keeping piece of history for others to see, kinda like a landmark- it shouldn't be rundown. It has nothing to do with the environment in that way either.
People could discuss it for many hours, but in the end, the people with crappy cars in crappy condition with those plates are probably 90% just trying to get over on taxes/registration and insurance. Which is all good until there is an accident and your car with a broken odometer has the same mileage as it did when you took out that policy a few years back.

Indiana mails a giant envelope to reregister, Illinois used to as well. This year we got a little 3x5 postcard. The fee went up but the mailer went down. And the DMV doesn't take visa. Wtf?- Josh
