*Sigh* I need to have a little conversation with my local Les Schwab

Got my old bottle caps balanced yesterday. Drove the car today, noticed a weird wobble. Had about 30 seconds before I knew something was very very wrong. Screeches and scratches. Metal on metal. I started to pull over and BAM, there goes my wheel and tire. The escaped rim ended up about 500 feet down the road, I was actually a little impressed with how far it made it. 3 of the lugs backed out, 1 sheered off. Never again will I let someone else touch my car. Ever.

Good news is I have AAA, so the tow home was free. I have a 5 lug swap ready for the front, so I'm guessing that its time to put that on. My skid plate saved my oil pan. So I just need a new quarter panel, lip, and valence.

Wow that's terrible, go back to them immediately and show them what happened. They should be covering any damages.

I wouldn't have called AAA, I would have called Les Shwab and told them they're coming to take care of it or you're taking a taxi to their office to explain why they're paying for your damages, as well as the taxi ride.

Considered it, but I didn't want to sit on the side of the road any longer than I had to.

And I'm going to give them a shot to make things right before I lawyer up. If they're nice, I'm not going to sue them or anything. I just want the parts to fix the car, I'll even take care of the labor myself.

They will take care of you. as long as they were the last ones to work on the car. I work at Les Schwab and I know we would take care of our customers.

Wow, glad you are alright. That could have been much worse if it happened on the highway.

Props to your brake rotor for taking it like a champ.

taking care of costumers by letting a car leave the shop without the wheels torqued....

Bummer dude. This is why I go back and retorque my wheels every time after I have new tires installed.

I really hate letting other people work on my cars.

Good luck getting this taken care of.

I would take the car to a shop to have a pro assess if there is more damage than visible to your naked eye.

                            Also don't touch anything.

Well, I talked to the manager at Les Schwab today. He was not nice. I told him that I'd prefer to do this without a lawyer to save everyone money, and that I'd be happy to get it checked out by anyone they want.

He said that they would not be paying out under any circumstances short of a court order. I replied that if I have to get a lawyer, they are going to end up paying for it anyway, so its just going to cost them more money. He promptly hung up. So, I called my lawyer (had him on retainer for another thing last year), and I'll let him handle it. In the mean time, I'm driving my old beat to hell Isuzu pickup. At least it gets 55MPG, but it tops out at about 55MPG haha.

Talking to my tow truck driver from the other day, it sounds like this Les Schwab has issues with things like this happening, and this is the third time in two months that he has towed someone that had work done at Les Schwab and had it go bad.

Its too bad. If they had cut a check for the cost of a used body panel, and some of the suspension parts, I would have been happy. That, and an apology. I'm not a litigious guy, and I'm not out to get rich off this. No one got hurt, my car will survive, and I was only slightly annoyed at having to sit on the side of the road for an hour. Now? Its going to cost them a shit load.
