You caused a ruckus by calling the 340i in this post a straight line car, which it isn't. The reason why you got called out is because you gave the flimsiest line of reasoning why you feel the 340i sucks. Maybe if you had a more substantial argument, I would have taken you seriously.

well I know a bit more about the m42.................... unintended of course
I really appreciate the work done on this vehicle. Granted, I can't see it in person, but it seems to have a well planned swap. I can't vouch for the difficulty, but I'm sure it wouldn't be easy.
actually, i bet the new m3's are gonna own. and for asu, give it up i used to be the same way about my m42. now I want a new engine, and can't decide which to use. My boss was trying to talk me into the same swap 340, but I ruled it out because of how much time money and effort is involved in a project like that. Way more then I can handle. Now Im just stuck as to get an: m30, m50, m20, or a s50. anyways, m42 is a great engine but daily use, but Id much rather build a bigger engine and produce more power.
BMW making a V8 is like a guy giving a blow job, it just ain't right.
What TJ said.
EDIT: asubimmer is fucking dumb
are you retarded? The s62 is possibly the most bad ass motor bmw has put in a street car, slightly behind the new v10. But by your logic you probably think the v10 is stupid too...

V10 is very cool. The V8 just really doesn't do anything for me. I mean yeah, it makes a lot of power, but when I look at the LS7, I just wonder why with all the technology put into the V10, does the "archaic" pushrod motor make as much HP and more torque. I dunno, just doesn't make any sense to me.
GM is still putting out the V8's, IMHO, hands down.

Well lets do a small comparison here:
LS7 in a Corvette Z06:
7 Litre V8, 7011cc's
MPG: 16/26
505 HP @ 6300 RPM
470 TQ @ 4800 RPM
Redline at RPM: 7200
V10 in a 2006 M5:
5.0 Litre V10, 4,941cc's
MPG: 12/18
507 HP @ 7750 RPM
384 TQ @ 6100 RPM
Redline at RPM: 8250
Each motor definately has its ups and downs, but considering the V8 has 30% more displacement over the V10 to make the same HP I'd take the V10 anyday.

An extra 2.0L of displacement, that's how.
Don't forget the Dodge 500hp V10 - that one only needs 8.3L... You have to consider specific output when praising an engine for the power it puts out.
Also keep in mind that the S62 is a 5 litre engine, when compared to an LS7, it only makes sense that the Z06 makes 100 more horsepower at the crank. It's all about how the engine in put together, not how much power it makes.
american muslce with around 5000cc, hmmm. Well all I can come up with recently would be the mustangs with 4.6's and they make what like 300 hp. The new gt500 will come out soon with a 5.4 and thats planned to make 450-500. But then again, that also has a s/c. S62 with a s/c -https://www.activeautowerke.com/supe...e39m5/main.php 600 hp. I think the E39 M5 has an impressive motor.
I thought it was pretty funny when clarkson was driving the srt10 viper and said, "If you gave a european engineer 8300 cc's to play with, he'd come up with a lot more than 500 hp. We can get that much these days from a pencil sharpener.."
