that car fucking rocks. I know not a single one of you, could say you wouldnt want that sitting in your garage.

I was actually going to buy this car last spring for $17k. Its a beautiful car and the fabrication is excellent. He didn't just do it to cram a V8 in it, he made a custom subframe and balanced out the braking to make the thing handle as good as any 4 or 6 cylinder E30. Its an awesome car and unless you are in the know, don't go saying the car can't handle... trust me... it handles just fine.

Then the wife had a problem paying $17k for a car that only "blue booked" at $3k. I have since spent about $25k on all of my little other BMW projects and I'm not even done with my E24 M6 yet. I think she learned her lesson... but I still miss this car. Its gorgeous for what it is and can spank many a car out there. Andy actually took out ABS because it would put too much weight on the front end. Trust me... the car is balanced. Trust me... it would own all but some of the seriously turboed 325's around here.

Valve cover gaskets probably leaking when it ain't even running. Biggest pos motor they ever put out, IMHO. Ain't even that fast either. What is the trans choice, sorry too lazy to even click the link.

If you sprinkle pixydust on a 318is it causes it to shit ice cream sandwiches.

The point is this car > 318is. The 318is is a good car but the 200lbs weight advantage isnt even going to come close to making up for the power disadvantage. Also judging by the wheels it looks like he changed the stoppies too.

Yea he has E36 M3 suspension, brakes etc.

Im as big a fan of the m42 as anyone else but asu you are a fool. You will not beat a 325i in a straight line. The BMW v8 is not that heavy and you can stop repeating the same lighter is better the m42 rules quote over and over again. You sound like a cd that keeps skipping.

thats because nobody can say anything to say that heavier is better. My 318is is not lightning fast but it sure can keep up w/ a 325is if not pull away a bit. it's nothing magical the m20 doesn't have but like 20ish more hp than the m42. people can hate on m42's all the want but I will never loose love for them. sure putting the m50 in my car would make it pretty fast...I don't think its worth it to loose the feel of the 318is. how is it so hard to believe that someone actually likes the m42? W/ a turbo my 318 should be able to hang w/ the s/m50's and I know I could turbo a m50 but I guess I may be like budget beater trying to prove to you crazy people something...that the m42 is not that bad. sure a turbo m50 would be faster but I think that a turbo m42 would be more than fast enough and tons of fun.

Ignorance is pretty damn entertaining.
(Stock figures) the +34hp and +37ft-lbs (peak mind you, not even bringing into question how much fatter power under the curve is in the I6 vs I4) is more than enough to overcome ~200lbs. Stop kidding yourself. The 318 is not faster than the 325. Period.

Back on topic: AKG's car is sweet. I would love a rebuilt OBD1 M62 mated to a 6spd in an E30. I don't think it would ever get boring.

Umm.. Corvette Z06 is heavier and it's better... there I said it.

Try more like 32+hp. And I'm pretty sure those extra 32 horses can more than make up for 200-300 extra pounds of weight.

asubimmer should stop being an M42 apologist.

The thread was SUPPOSED to be about a 340i. Not that the M42 can pull on an M20, or putting in an S52 into an E30 is stupid, etc. etc.

asu, you know why BMW didn't put a V8 into the E30? They didn't put a V8 into ANY car during the production years of the E30. They did not make a V8 until ~1993, when the M60 came out. Before that the last time BMW made an 8 cylinder was in the 1960s. What a poor line of reasoning.

The thread drifted when asubimmer called out the 340i as only a straight line car, and started to proselytize about how FUH RAZE the M42 is. F that.

You can stubbornly stick to your guns about how mad tight the M42 is, but a 340i, or even a six cylinder E30 can teach you a lesson in any venue. I have a 318is myself. But at least I know its limitations.
