    MOMO Marine wheels

What's the difference between Momo's marine steering wheels and the car ones? I was looking at them on eBay and they are fucking cheap, like $30 brand new. I know the material on the wheel is "hard" and not leather, is that the only difference?

They are probably a lot smaller. My father in law has had several ski/fishing boats, and all of the steering wheels in them are ungodly small. For driving a boat, it's not an issue, because you're never really making hairpin turns in a boat, so the amount of steering input control isn't as much of an issue. I'm willing to bet they're also probably made of entirely plastic and/or wood. I'm willing to bet they probably also won't work with a MOMO car hub adapter, but I could be wrong.

They are actually all 350mm, some are 320 but it depends on the model. The center spokes and such are the same from what I can tell, its just the outter rim that is different.

Well, cool then! All you need to do is find out if they'll mount in a car with a hub adapter, and you're good to go.

I just looked them up, how can they possibly be so cheap? Are they real MOMO?

the material they make them out of must be rated for marine use. that's the only thing i can think of now.

My thoughts exactly. Salt air, constant sun exposure, etc. etc. Just more resilient materials so it still looks nice after a few years of abuse.

Though I think that the hub adapter for marin use might be small in diameter than what is made for vehicle use.

If the bolt pattern is the same as the car wheels (and I'd imagine it is) then you just need the corresponding car hub.

Maybe I will be the test dummy and pick one of these up.

I had a cheap momo-style in my old boat, and I'm pretty sure the 6 allen bolts were the same pattern as in my car, for what it's worth. Do it if it fits!

It doesn't seem like you would be able to grip the hard plastic very well...

It may also be a safety thing. The wheel for a car is probably designed with materials that will give somewhat in a hard impact.

What is the construction of the marine wheel? Fiberglass? Wood? Might that shatter and pose a greater injury risk in an automobile accident?
