    pre-84 Rabbit all the way.
my last 1.8 gas bunny got 38mpg without tuning
I had a diesel 1.6(no balls) that averaged 61mpg. I sold it with 312k miles and last I heard, it was still getting 50+mpg

even if you go with the NA GTi, you'll still get 35+ and way more fun than a CRX

        Miata or Civic.

I wouldn't want to commute on a motorbike. Too many distracted drivers , not worth the bodily risk every day.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Why not try 2 wheels. Except in bad weather. You have high mpg, and fun to drive. Perhaps something like this

Miata is a great choice. It's a street legal go-cart, so much fun to toss around and cheap to operate and maintain. I really regret selling mine and would get another in a heartbeat if I needed another car.

CRX, absolutely. They are loads of fun and get ridiculous gas mileage, 46 mpg combined according to the government, regular one closer to 30. Should be easier to find a decent stock one than a stock Civic.

Other than that mk1/2 Golf, Miata, 318

Have you driven a CRX? I doubt if a GTi is any more fun, but might be on par.

seriously, just DD the e30 and use the money you are about to spend on another car for gas/maintenance and you will be a much happier guy. the difference of 10mpg is only like $30 a month unless you are doing tons of miles.
                  Thread should have ended here

That being said, this thread is stupid

Miata, CRX, Ninja 250, or older 600. My F2 used to get 54 mpg.

Golf mk2 GTD or 1.6td, gets like 60mpg and with some mods it can pull pretty hard while retaining fuel economy.

                              CRX.

                              Unbeatable fun. Quick. Super efficient.

Would rather have one than a E30 318is.
