    Been there and done this...

First, find a nice 4 door later model E30 auto (if she doesn't drive a stick) with front airbag for your wife. Fix it up nicely so its all ready for her to drive with a baby seat and put a bow on top. She'll be happy to let you take the Sunfire away the same day.

I have had a miata for about 5 years. I got my e30 two years ago. I have only driven the miata twice in the last year. It's my girlfriends summer dd now. The novelty of a miata wears off, and you will find yourself missing the comfort of a slightly larger car, the back seat for room when needed, and a functional trunk. I even prefer my e30 for auto cross. The miata is tossable and nimble, but it really does feel like a go kart (especially on hr race springs), which isn't always a good thing. The e30 is so much more substantial.
I keep thinking of selling the miata for an e30 Vert.

Wait a second..... You're straight? Going to need to see a pic out of that car.

Common procedure called "foamectomy," costs $0 and fixes that problem forever without sacrificing any noticeable amount of comfort. Take an hour at most.

So what if you have to put the kid in the Miata? Does not sound like a good idea to me. my e30 is a total pita for the car seat. A 4 door one would be better even though sunfires are junk it makes more sense then a small ass 2 seat convertible
