Depends on what you mean by purists. I don't support limiting people's options for authenticity (only BMW engines in BMWs), but I'm a very strong supporter of effectiveness. For example, if someone wanted to swap in a 302 Ford Windsor V8, I'm all for it. They're affordable, they can make great power, etc... But let's say they want to swap in... A 2.7L Hyundai V6. I'm not singling out Hyundai because I have any issue with the brand, but that specific motor offers no tangible benefits over an M20. And people do this kinda shit constantly, because they want to be "different". This is the root of the problem, different for the sake of different.
I keep hearing the argument that this is a driver for innovation, etc... but it doesn't hold water. Maybe if you're undertaking a swap that you can see would bring tangible benefits, but hasn't been done before, so might be more work than established ones. I'm talking about the motherfuckers that realize there's nothing good or useful about what they're doing, but they're just such a special little snowflake and they want the whole world to know how special and unique they are.
I realize that it's not exactly accurate to use engine analogies when discussing a thread about body mods, but I do think it relates though. Effectiveness still plays a role. Fitting random body parts from one vehicle onto another rarely if ever looks good and also rarely if ever offers any tangible benefits.
As for the last bit about superiority, effective is superior over ineffective by definition. When you do something that accomplishes something, it is inherently better than doing something which accomplishes nothing. Maybe in snowflake world all things are equal and all things are good, but in the real world, people only care about useful things.Comment

To a point this is true, however it does not explain things like sentimental value or what different people find asthetically pleasing. Do we bag on people who rebuild m20s to have 3L of displacement, add custom headers, a big cam and lots of shiny fancy valvetrain parts when an s52 would make more power for less or equal work and money invested? Generally, no.Depends on what you mean by purists. I don't support limiting people's options for authenticity (only BMW engines in BMWs), but I'm a very strong supporter of effectiveness. I'm not defending the E30-bru at all, I think it's as rediculous as the guys attitude, but I also think that there is a point where it is worth doing something that won't see raw numerical results. For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!Originally posted by mbonanniI hate modded emtree, I hate modded cawrz, I hate jdm, I hate swag, I hate stanceyolokids, I hate bags (on cars), I hate stuff that is slowz, I hate tires.

He should have just waited till the project was finished and THEN posted the project pics. All his trials & errors will be open to criticism for a work-in-progress. That said, it will probably still look like butt when it's 'done'.R135 /// 1990 Alpinweiß II 325is

I will never understand why people get so worked up about these things. To each their own.Comment

Seriously. People have been doing stupid shit long before Mike, independent of Mike, and will continue to after Mike. What the hell does any of mikes builds have to do with this POS? It's not even "stanced"

I'll agree my comment may have been poorly thought out. As there are lots of people doing stupid shit like this all over the place.
I'm largely not a fan of mikes work and see him as the poster child for a lot of the attention whorish builds on stanceworks. Aka that abomination he calls rusty. However this is simply my opinion, so I don't really give a fuck if you disagree with it.
That being said, why didn't this guy just put his effort into building this car into something interesting on its own?sigpicComment

Projects shouldn't get automatic applause just cos they're different or "unique." I don't care if it's been done a million times or once, I'm gonna judge it on merit. Using the simple binary scale of "Good or Stupid?" I'm going with Stupid on this one.diamantschwarz 1991 318isComment
