E46 M3 daily? Any other suggestions?

Alot of fun as in under steering on every corner? Having to hold your steering wheel to one side to go in a straight line on wot? I just don't like seeing an engine mounted in transverse fashion.

X2 the only decent fwd are the small older Hondas crx, EG civic

a hatchback subbie like a legacy gt would be good mix of handle, mpg, tunability, and grocery putting.

I like to have all four wheels on the ground when I oversteer traction is optional :)

OP, I have 4 bmws on my driveway right now..e46 m3,e46 touring, e30 325ix, e36 323is...stay away from the m3 as a dd trust me..if your dd has to be a bmw, get an e36, I get about 26-28mpg on it..the e46 M3s are not cheap to maintain, you can save a lot of money if you do all your own work, which what I do...but you better know how to adjust valves and things of that nature.. E36s are good for daily driving. My 5 speed 328i gets good gas mileage, handles well, and is comfortable. I don't see why anybody would need more than 200hp for daily driving.

If you're looking in the price range of E46 M3's, I'd personally consider just leasing a new BMW to avoid worrying about maintenance. It would be so nice to not have to deal with the problems a used BMW has...

no offense, but this thread could've been avoided with common sense. A sportscar that people hardly daily'd in 2003 that cost 50k+ new, and you're expecting this to be practical for now? Either you have DEEP pockets or are just dreaming. Plus 180k miles is just asking for trouble, you'd be driving your e30 more than your "daily."


EDIT: Buddy of mine just picked up a carbon black 6 spd, with like 110k for 15,500. Had the clutch put on wrong, his diff is making all sorts of noises, has countless ///M specific crap going wrong. He also has a large commute, and in my opinion (as a daily) walk away.

The m3 was just a thought I not a possibility, I knew it would be expensive to maintain but I needed others insights and other suggestions.

Guys, I'm leaving heavily toward an is300 mostly because my uncle is a supra genius, getting parts or modifying the stock is300 motor and maintaining it would be no problem and if ever wanted to do a 2jz na-T swap or a 2jz-gte swap it would cost me next to nothing.

You can achieve lift-off oversteer with any drive configuration.
