    cars + college = ???

hey fellas, i got off to college next year and if i want a parking space within 100 miles of campus i need to apply for one soon. so my question is, how many of u guys in college have your cars with you? is it worth bringing your e30 with you? Ill be going to University of Tennessee, which is planted on top of Knoxville. There would be plenty of transportation available but i dont know if i can part with my e30.

    Whats up!?

Well if everything is gonna be within walking distance for you, then I would just put your car in storage for the next couple of years. Saves money on gas and insurance.

i left my e30 at home when i moved interstate..not for college, but whaeva....i do miss it, but on the upside, i save money on 'cruise' fuel, i spend less on mods, and i have the added benefit of not racking up the km's on the odo....you get used to not having it, and it makes it even more fun when you go home!!!!

I love seeing the bottom of the lip on my Simmons peeking out from under the car cover...just begging to be driven.

hell yea it here, and so is my daily driver too! I don't have a garage here, but I cover my M3 during the week and only drive it on the weekend/special occasions...
my 535iS gets a daily beating by driving to school/work and other short trips. I don't know what I would do without my cars here...

The bus system in Eugene works great!
          Parking Permits are $90/term.
They sell 5 permits for every 1 spot.
You have to park over a quarter mile away from campus.

I have my car here, but I probably only drive it once or twice per week. To get groceries and such.

Purdue is a large campus, and walking is healthy. The bus system works great supposedly too. So in town, no car = not really a problem.

Now coming home to play poker, or to drive to Chicago for Euroteknik meets next year = need car. Freshmen cannot get permits @ Purdue, so I'm finding a friend's cousin who should let me park my car at their place. (Under cover, paying them to watch it)

Second year, hell yeah. Will be drivin the 40 minutes  between West Layefette and Indianapolis. (FYI, some people take an hour:15 minutes for the trip. Straight 2 lane highway = easy to average 115mph. :D In an Acura) Be cruisin around campus with whatever mods I have then, maybe exhaust or something 8) .

I can't live without my E30. So it must come with me. I will drive it often, even if I wasn't going anywhere.

I'm 300 miles from home, where I get even shittier weather on shittier roads. Having my car here (especially in winter) is a huge hassle. I occasionally have to be ride-bitch, and fixing shit is nearly impossible. It would probably be easier for me to just be one of the annoying friends who has to ask for rides all the time.
My heater blower motor just recently broke = I can't defrost my windshield! I wouldn't mind not having heat, but winters in NY and MA require some air and heat to defrost every day I drive. I ordered a used blower motor from the Euro Depot Sunday night. Supposedly, it was supposed to take 1 day to ship. I'm still waiting, and I have next week off and I'm supposed to be driving home Friday afternoon/night. If that part doesn't come by then, I'm fucked.
So yeah... my E30 is just a hassle for me here.

Definitely take your car to school with you...otherwise you'll kick yourself later.

I cannot imagine what my university days would have been like with no car....

my car is at school with me, it's nice to be able to go home whenever you like. It mostly just sits under a car cover in the parking lot until the weekends

I'm in the same boat as rwh11385, but I don't really care if I can't drive freshman year, because then I won't be dumping loads of money into my car. Sophmore year will be different though. Oh yeah, I'll have to hitchhike back home to Chicago then...

I havent had mine at school for my first 2 years. Parking is +/-$1000 each academic year. Not worth it to me. You'll have friends that will have cars there. I just use theirs and put some gas in it afterwards.

I'll have it here for my last 2 years since my appt has free parking.
                        Below the radar...

UT is a cool college. The places you need to go will definitely be accessible by buses. However, if you want to do anything off campus like out doors stuff you may want it, bumming rides gets gay. There is snow over that way too, which is another thing to factor in, hope some of this helped. 8)

I've got my car here, I only use it to drive to the beach (2 miles). It sits around most of the time since I will either ride with someone or walk.

Let's drive fast and have fun.
