Going to the dark side - Selling the E30

I'm aware I'm going to get alot of shit for this, so I'll just put my flame suit now :D

I've decided I'm going to sell my E30 325i and get an E36. I'm not sure if which model it's going to be yet, either a 328is or an M3 depending on purchase price and insurance costs.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 325i, but I think for my purposes the E36 would be a much better car for me. Better gas mileage, more comfort, quieter, updated look, and OBD2 all had parts to play in this. Call me a weenie or whatever, but I like the little luxuries in my daily drivers. I really wish I could keep both, unfortunately I cannot.

Any ideas as to how much I could get for it?

    1990 325i
    5 speed
    136,xxx Miles
    3.73 LSD
$500 alarm with keyless, remote start, paging
    6-button OBC
    Manual Sunroof
Standard Seats (but I'm throwing in the fuzzy seat covers!)
    1.9L Z3 Short Shifter
    3 senior owners before me
    Couple cracks in dash :(

I do plan on getting a lip for it before I sell, as I think it'll help with the sale.

I took more pics today, here they are:

You aren't a wieny, I'd do the same thing if I could afford it.

Just curious though, why did you put a $500 alarm on a car that is stock like that?

Clean it up and put a lip on it - you could get close to 4 for it.

Well that's good to hear :D

I live in a bad part of town. The main reason is because if any of my friends or neighbors ever have a problem downstairs coming to or from my apartment they know they can hit my car (with their hand) and it'll page me. I also wanted keyless entry and remote start.

Interesting reason to get an alarm for the car !!!

My insurance company gives a discount for anti theft devices.. that's one good reason.

              good luck with the E36!

Once its all ready, set your price at $4K. Try to get at least $3.5K for it.

Ive not met one person that for whatever reason got an E36 after an E30 that didnt instantly or after some time want an E30 again. And Ive known quite a few who have moved "up" if you wanna call it that.
                  Be warned. :)

I very nearly made this move this spring (I was in a rock band and had dillusions of grandeur) but I quit my band and I'm sticking with the e30 for now. Good luck with the sale, it's a nice looking car!

when you said your going to the darkside, i thought you were going to start with, so Im selling the e30 and getting a honda...

I dont see why anyone would flame you for buying an updated 3 series. I have mine b/c I wanted the lightest, coolest looking little bmw to swap some big power into. An E36 would be cool, but the E30 is just lighter and should be more of a sleeper.

BTW, has anyone swapped the M30 into a E36?

                              I just sold my E36 M3

(keep in mind, some of this was for financial reasons)

I had a 1993 325is, sold it and got a 1986 325, then got a 1997 E36 M3 as the "fun" car, while keeping the 325 as the daily beater (100 miles per day). I liked the 325, but wanted a little more sporty and was done with the M3. I sold the 325 and the M3 and got a 1991 318is. I haven't regretted it yet. I liked the M3, but insurance, gas and cost made the 318is very attractive. Besides, the 318is is still a great handler and loves to rev.
