But that heavy ass convertible top makes up for it ;) -
My car's got the tar, still haven't decided if I will remove it or notComment

I wouldn't bother if I were you. 325i's are already front heavy and you have the added weight of the turbo in the front.Originally posted by MR 325My car's got the tar, still haven't decided if I will remove it or notComment

I think I'm going to remove my entire A/C and the trunk tar, hopefully the weight removal will be similar front and rear.

yeah, that's where it may matter - if you're removing a lot of weight, taking the trunk tar may make a difference, but alone - nada.Originally posted by SpecM-I've removed my trunk tar, p/s, a/c, and engine-driven fan. Lots of weight all together.Comment

it's fine, I paid a little too much but there's lots of good parts on it I can sell for decent money (the whole interior with the exception of the carpet is in great shape). I expect to break about even once I finish my swap and engine build, within $500-$1000. I still feel bad ending this car's life since there weren't a lot of them, but there's just too much rust. amazingly, everything on it works, although the engine is very tired (as is, my car would run it over). it'll enjoy a second life in my car though. :)Originally posted by Bimmerfanatikfucking hi-larious. Nando, how's that car working out for you? Worth it in the end? :)Comment

The car was well cared for, aside from its rust issues - then again, an ix in NE would have seen some tough days.Originally posted by nandoit's fine, I paid a little too much but there's lots of good parts on it I can sell for decent money (the whole interior with the exception of the carpet is in great shape). Breaking even is killer - I always try to keep costs at a minimum. And like you said, selling the parts off will compensate for the difference.
How's everything going? What point are you at in the process?Comment

I just moved it to my grandmother's shop yesterday. I've only removed a few interior bits for my car so far (maplight mirror, speaker pods, ebrake console). starting next saturday I'm going to remove the entire interior, and then drop the suspension. then I'll work on the exterior (lights, body kit, glass, etc). lastly I'll pull the motor & tranny (swapping after spring quarter is finished). all the electrical bits work (amazingly), so i should be able to sell most of them too. the hood is going to a friend of mine, but otherwise everything that is not ix specific will be sold, and the poor shell will be crushed. :)
oh yeah, I tested the AWD yesterday - 4k clutch drop on the gravel. works like a charm! an NE ix has definitely seen some rought times, which makes the fact that the AWD still works flawlessly even more impressive. I'll probably end up using most of my transfer case from the auto though, since it has much lower miles (about 40k), and keep the other as a spare.Comment

I don't have it, but I'm a 318is. Our cars are the worst you can buy from the beginning. ;)The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.Comment

Well I have removed the whole air conditioning system from the front plus the CF hood saves weight too. I think that stuff makes up for the added weight of the turbo parts for sure.Originally posted by DigitalwaveI wouldn't bother if I were you. 325i's are already front heavy and you have the added weight of the turbo in the front.Comment

Well, if the weight loss in the front balances the turbo weight equally, the car will still be front heavy, so I say leave it.Originally posted by MR 325Well I have removed the whole air conditioning system from the front plus the CF hood saves weight too. TJ is right - our cars are factory near 50/50 weight distribution - so if you want to lose weight, lose it evenly on either side of its center point.Originally posted by DigitalwaveWell, if the weight loss in the front balances the turbo weight equally, the car will still be front heavy, so I say leave it.Comment
