So I've been thinking about doing a turbo set up on my m20 to make about 300-350whp.. but earlier today my buddy was telling me about a 5.0 swap. I was thinking about maybe doing a carbed 5.0 so I don't have to mess with an ECU blah blah blah.. Any Ideas? yes or no?

93 Fox body 5.0, 205hp/275tq at the crank. Not exactly huge numbers here, but from the sounds of you not wanting to "mess with the ecu blah blah blah" I would recommend going this route. Turbo setups are more involved then just strapping a turbo to your motor.

m20s are abundant and easy to turbo with all the guides available here and e30tech. You can easily make that power with a typical setup - every step has been done before and is laid out if you research a little. The most difficult and most important part is tuning. whodwho has you covered on the hardware and there are plenty of MS configs/maps.
If you want something unique then it would make sense to do a v8 swap.

Same guy who was telling me about doing a 5.0 swap works at a race motor shop and can hook it up with afr heads and any machining needed. He built a 5.0 with stock crank forged rods/pistons and afr heads. He's making about 400hp don't know about torque tho.. Don't know exactly how much he spent but for sure less than 3k

5.slow is not a very great v8..
but a 5.slow would be fun, and does have enough power to allow fun, and is very cheap.
with that being said, a stock m20 is also "slow" and also has enough power to have a lot of fun.
