I still don't understand why people are spending all that money and effort putting in a motor that makes power comparable to an M20.

M30's are so underrated and cheap as hell.

;) I might have a rat rod body, but I take the highest care in my engines. Even tucked most of my harness.

Next thing I have to do is swap the harness over like csermonet47 did with his. Converting to the b25 harness makes a cleaner finish for the c101 and placement of the relays. But yeah, it is annoying to see not many take the effort in a clean swap. Oddly, my b35 from a 1989 535 swapped without any wiring. FrankM E30 checked the pin out and said it was ready to fire from factory. Never ever seen that before. Only thing that needs to be wired up is the tach. When I did my swap, I was in a rush to get on the road for GFest '13.

I pulled the b35 on 1-16-2013 and was running with a completely resealed and powder coated b35 on 4-23-2013. Would have been done sooner, but I was waiting on powder coated parts.
I did not have time to redo the bottom end before Gfest. But the engine had under 120k on it. Some day down the road when I have the room I want to bore over the block and rebuild it completely.

I would take an m30 swap over an m5x anyday. Hell, my e46 feels like it has zero low end grunt when lugging in third gear, my m20 can pull harder than it!

24v or bust. Such a better engine all around. Don't mess with those old heavy M30s. They are pure junk. If M30s were so good, BMW would still be making them.

i went from driving an e30 with m20 straight into an e30 with m50. only difference is light weight fly wheel, headers, fan delete.. strong rebuilt motor. my e30 m50 pulls way harder then an m20 lol. its not just barely faster. but i am getting power hungry. right now im waiting to put in an m54b30 rotating assembly. should be where i want it to be after that

What a shame. I saved 3 from the m30 holocaust. They're in my garage waiting.

This is the truth - my local wreckers has had a good half a dozen of them recently where no one pulled the engine and they went to the crusher. I'd have grabbed a spare, but have no where to store it at the moment.

I did grab a spare top-end though for the time when my rockers apparently are going to break ;D (hydraulic lifters aren't exactly bullet proof if a PO has run shitty oil either!)

It was fully reconditioned with new valves for $130.... hmmm not too many M50 / M52 heads round my parts for that kind of money yet.

Not like I have enough in my shop to build at least 3 M30s.

Around here they get scrapped because the redneck junkyards see "BMW" and want $1k for a 200k mile M30.

The junk yards around me sell all heads for the same price, no matter what it comes off of. its 75 bucks. they do half off weekend about 3 times a year. so you can get an m50 or any bmw motor for dirt cheap then. but living in arkansas, there are hardly ever m30's in any of the yards here.
