the impreza isn't really any bigger than an E30.

the legacy wagons are definitely larger, but he said he didn't want something to bore him to death. unless you find a manual (good luck, it took us months to find one), it's going to be awful. the manual is just enough to keep me from wanting to stab myself in the eyes while driving it. they also get terrible gas mileage for how slow they are.

mutherfucker! you have an e34ix touring here in the usa? lucky bastard!

Had a 98 Audi a4 quattro and did well with a car seat in the rear. 5 speed and awd made it a fun, safe and reliable choice. They can be had for decent price as well.

Volvo v70r. Awd 300 hp 6spd manual. Oh and you can get the 3rd seat that faces backward so it can seat seven. Shifter is clunky and steering is a little numb but better than most family haulers

Hell the E30 is too small for some drivers. A guy looked at and test drove my old 87 TWICE but eventually decided it was too small for his approximate 6' 8" and 350 plus pounds. His belly was basically hitting the steering wheel and his head hitting the headliner. It was both sad and comical at the same time. Car eventually went to a relatively average size kid in Maine. I don't think he had any kids either.

Off topic but my buddy Darin is a solid 300 plus and 6'0, I always think my seats are gonna break from him sitting in them. How much can an e30 seat hold weight wise?

Yes, it's a total soccer mom car. But it's comfy, has a turbo, and your wife will love it because of the purported safety factor.

                          MK V GTi 5 door.

Our Recaro Como is the biggest damn car seat I've ever seen, and it still fit the GTi facing rearwards. Facing forwards now and I still have no problems in our TDi Jetta. The GTi is surprisingly fun car to drive.... way way way more fun than an E34 touring.

This is the true American thought process these days: "Well I need something that holds more than me and my backpack, so I better get an SUV"
It's not so much the American mentality, but the gigantic size of car seats of today. They occupy nearly the entire seat, so your kids legs are dangling in the space that the front seat usually ocupies. Your kids legs are usually about 8-12 inches higher up than an adults legs. Unless you have the front seat completely forward and totally uncomfortable, then the two of you are trying to occupy the same space.

The convertible car seats are even worse, since it's like a mini human hammock that clicks into a base. It takes up even more room than a permanent child seat.

He's too big for ANY car but a Corvette

I quite enjoy my E30 at 6'3" 165lbs. I even feel comfortable in the back...

I think the definition of space requirements are now utterly silly. I shall be fine with a kid and and e30. However, since kids tend to destroy nice things, A 540it would be my choice, or a 740il for the rear leg room and kids.

I've had a couple of e39 tourings, and they've been great cars. They hold a surprising amount of gear!
