I say you can do what you want, but I feel that painting it flat black is bland and a cop out

No offense, but it's easy to do and tacky. At the very least, go to towerpaint.com and buy yourself some factory spray-cans of alpineweiss paint to match the color of the car. it looks so much cleaner.

I had to make this decision a few weeks ago..I was going to do a blue similar to LsB on my zinno car with matching engine cover and valve covers but decided against it at painted it red..IMO it kind of makes it look like you got a respray and the bay is the original color.

Of course everyone on r3v shit their pants and cried into their mom's tits about it because this is r3v, but in the end, it's your car. That being said, I like off colour painted bays, so long as the colours go together. Either complimentary or clashing on purpose.
this girl tried so long to sell that car. took ages if i remember correctly.

OP - its your car, do what you like. I do agree that flat black is not ideal. If it were my money, I'd go with body color.

Well flat black was never the option. I was thinking gloss black. But I think ive decided to stay with body color

I think its fine. At the end its your car, who doesn't like it can suck it. Honestly personally i don't see why people are so butthurt about keeping e30 the original color... Ton of people cry about how e30 has to be all original and crap like that, even though their own e30s are about 90% not original what so ever...
I have a hennarot (probably the color that makes people on r3v bitch the most with that original crap) supposedly rare color, but still debating weather to keep the bay hennarot or just paint it matte black after i shave the bay for the swap.

I do think zinno car with black bay, especially if shaved, would look real good, but then again, even if you keep the zinno bay it will still look awesome with shaved bay.

I think a black bay can look good if done right. As mentioned it's a popular thing with muscle cars. If you're going to do it you've got to do it right though. Not a couple of $2 spray cans. ;)

On my M-Tech car I left the engine bay Schwarz when I got the car painted Cosmos Schwarz. I think it's close enough not to be an issue though.

black bay in the muscle car scene is known as the "rattle can restoration" ;). I wouldnt mind black, but probably prefer a bed liner just for ruggedness.

The black muscle car engine bays are GM and a Ford thing... Mopar did it right and painted it body color. But for your car do it right and do it body color. And think forward if you ever have to sell it. You don't want to lift the hood and have a potential buyer looking at it and thinking what's this shit?

meh - since you're asking for opinions, I think it generally looks like crap. I'm sure it could look good done properly, but proper matte black paint jobs are actually more work than just painting it body color.

Zinno would make it look out of place IMO. If it was Alpine it would look OK, but my vote is keep it body color.
