The line between "bad ass" and "dumb ass" is frequently blurred.

And Ken Block definitely = bad ass.

Because Ken Block is a professional; closed circuit courses with no one to injure but himself and insured props.

Gorgi is a straight amateur (a good amateur at that), who endangered many lives and countless dollars in potential property destruction on public roads

this is a jaded view based off of media/hipsters.

driving for grip on public roads is just as much of a threat to pedestrians and other drivers as drifting....

please define 'driving for grip'. I dont know what that is but I'm sure it's not as bad as what's happening in that video...

i think what he's saying is hooliganism, whether it be sideways or just balls out going for v-max down mainstreet, is dangerous for everybody when on public roads. I think the incident with Paul Walker and Rodger Rodas is a prime example. Rodas was a goddamn professional and hooning in public cost him and Walker their lives. Too many variables to account for when you take it to the limit.. Sideways or not...

                lol

who said anything about driving for "grip"? that was all you. if you want to take your figure skating exercise to the track more power to ya. I'll keep endangering people's lives by driving the speed limit on an on ramp.

every time I lose traction I just close my eyes and say "jesus take the wheel." so far so good.

                    Lol.

What I'm getting at is that most people who are into drifting do not conduct driving in this fashion, especially on public roads, wether it's going balls out down a two way street cutting the double yellow and passing doing twice the speed limit, or sliding on the wrong side of the road in a country highway intersection.

Just as most people who are into racing and driving as fast as possible in a corner, do not conduct the type of driving that is equally as dangerous, if not more dangerous as what we have just watched.

I'm just sticking up for a Motorsport I enjoy, as I'm sure someone could say driving for speed on a road course is equally as lame, but when it boils down to it it's all opinion, and sadly these are the kind of videos that make people think the Motorsport of drifting is a joke.

Driving balls out fast and taking corners as fast as you possible can until you wreck your dads m3 going 110 around a 60mph corner and kill yourself and your buddy in the passenger seat losing control in a corner.

Because I don't here stories exactly like that on the news all the damn time.

You see them all the time because there are tons of wannabe street drifters.

If you are driving your car as hard as you can on the street in any fashion you are still an idiot. Drifting just seems to attract more of that type.

Well that's a shame because there's great a drifting scene and great events being held in the PNW.

There's a sucker born every minute, wether he's into nascar, drifting, f1, even drag racing. He's just gotta be dumb enough to think he's the man, and push it too far.

Motor sports exhibited on the street are dangerous to everyone.

clearly you dont know enough of them. Orlin took me for a ride driving like this. i had him take be back home asap. there are tons of marks on the streets in my neighborhood from a group of mustangs that drift on the streets. and it doesnt take long to search for idiots on this forum that drift blind corners on the wrong side of the street. i personally wouldnt mind seeing all drift events such down. people drift there and then practice on the streets around me. im sick of it.

Yeah that kinda stuff is dumb and irresponsible and unfortunately it's an attractive option for most.

The only real place on the street to practice car control is really no where...

But empty baron parking lots at non business hours such as a corporate are lot is as safe as it gets, but your still risking trouble with the law.

It's like $80 to register for a Wednesday at Sonoma and that will get you a solid 2 hours of seat time out there.

Yep I keep it off the streets. I've only ever seen one street drifting video that I was cool with. Zero parked cars, spotters, no people in a very commercial area.

I myself go to empty lots on occasion, mostly if I change car setup and just want to see what's going on. But the only life I'm risking is my own.
