another concern with the chinese shit is optical clarity - a lot of them will be wavy and have optical defects. also many of them are made too small since they mold it off a finished factory glass and don't take into account that the glass shrinks when it cools.

I've gotten a few nice windshield's from the scrap yard before, even a set of T-Tops. There are nice ones to be had, but they are hard to find/wait for. I have had a few crack on me while trying to get them out. There is something to be said about the quality of German vs Mexican glass for VW bugs. I bought a new windshield for by 74 to replace a cracked one and it wasn't even close to lining up. I didn't even bother putting it in I just got a original from a car with crazy miles on it. It still looks great and is nice and clear.

Okay so the neighbor text me and told me what if my insurance goes through it, cause it might be cheaper that way and they'll pay whatever my insurance couldn't. I'm just thinking here like "these fools are trying to get out of it" and also wont my insurance rate go up if I have to deal with them.? I'm already broke as I already am and I wouldn't want to pay more for insurance.

Any thoughts on this guys? Anything is highly appreciated.

This would be a comprehensive claim, which shouldn't increase your premium.
You'd have to pay your deductible though, unless you have $0 deductible full coverage, or a special glass protection package.

(I have full coverage with 0 down on glass replacement, so when my windshield cracked I didn't have to pay a dime)

If all you have is Liability with out glass coverage/rider then you cant turn it on your Auto plan anyway. Fuck the neighbor should be taking the pricing out on the ass hat who tossed the bottle in the 1st place. I would not care how it gets paid, just so long as it got paid.

Just state that you only have liability insurance and you called and your insurance WILL NOT cover windshiled glass replacement. There is no way for the neighbor to determine if you do or do not have coverage for the windshield glass replacement.

Then indicate you have BMW windshield glass and have found a shop to replace it. -That is after you HAVE found a shop to replace it. Ask for funds before work is performed. Then if he balks tell him that you will see him in Small Claims court. About 38 to file that you can include as part of your suit. File it. Wait till the date . Make appearance. He will not. Judgement goes to you. Now he has a lein. You still have a fucked windshield , but eventually it may get paid because of the lien.

Okay so I told him that I will not go through insurance and I came to a bmw dealership and they quoted me $372.76 and it didn't include labor. They also said that they gotta order it from Germany and that will take at least 10 business days, I need my car to get to school. The bmw dude also said that fed ex took care of the shipment, so there is a big chance that it might arrive with a chip or something. Now idk what to do :| any ideas.? Should I just go and give him the estimate I got from bmw or?...
