To OP. Why does it matter..?
I've gotten complements all the time about my doors sounding and feeling "solid" and that the closing is a nice satisfying *wathunk*. I have to "slam" most things, but the only things I can possibly see you concerned about are the doors; to that I say whatevs

The standard gear box never gave me any issues in that regard. Sounds like your GF just isn't dedicated enough

No such thing as a good reason for a shitbox

and yea its not the dedication, more the fact that she is scared to even touch the center console thinking she will throw me out of gear. (same problem different excuses though i guess)

Anyone got a picture from Vintage of Jock slamming into the blue e30 racecar with his white e28? (I was in shock from watching him launch into it)

Details: Jock's car has a sloppy 5-speed with worn out shifter bushings. He was about 18 inches from the car on a hill and thought he was in Reverse; he was in 1st. But the owner seemed to be cool about it.

What the hell are you guys talking about? lol
You should def not have to be slamming your doors for them to close opie.
The raw (read: almost metal to metal) sound that some of you are experiencing come from shrunken, flattened seals as someone had mentioned.
Replace those and the doors will feel padded and make a comforting/reassuring/solid thunk when you close em.

I slammed my driver door and the b pillar portion of the door became misaligned and i started to hear the noise of outside air.

With a little elbow grease and my suave asian persuasion I got it nice and dandy.

The effort level is noticeably higher than, say, a Honda of the same vintage. It's German. It's tough to discern whether or not you're experiencing an abnormal amount of effort via the internet. But i'm going to guess, since you say it's *everything*, that the car is fine and you're just not used to owning a German automobile.

People I know who have their roots in Japanese cars consistently miss closing my doors on the first try. People who drive American cars slam everything.

It's all in what you're used to. I daily drive an E46, which has typical heavy BMW steering. After a long weekend getaway driving with a friend of mine in her 2014 Civic, I got back in my E46 to drive home. When I pulled away, I actually got out of my car and popped the hood to make sure my serpentine belt hadn't snapped or something. The steering in my car felt so heavy after driving the Honda for 4 days, I questioned if the power steering was even working.
