I am really a fan of the current layout and functionality of the forum. What is your reason for upgrading? Newer does not mean better, and it often brings new problems and issues. Readability and navigation is the most important part of a forum, and the current forum does that very well.

^+1, bfc has the new layout and I can't really say I'm a fan. Less is more.

Don't see any advantages of changing it except the search function worked on my phone.......prolly gonna be slower looks less unique, so when to new people look at the site it may look like a genaric shitty fourm that they(at least me) avoide like http://www.newschoolers.com/forum while the current look is alot nicer, like my other fourm http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/index.php
        I also don't like change

I realize that newer is certainly not always better, however VBulletin has discontinued security updates for the version we are on, and our gallery plugin is no longer maintained.. so at this point I need to at least bring is up to 4.X to maintain some level of current software.

Is there other "skins" for VB that will allow for a bit more condensed layout? (I like all the info compact)

A dark layout sure seems easier on the eyes. And might not look like to much empty space. My 2 cents.

Do it.. the beauty of CSS is you can update the look of the site at any time.

I'm just hoping the newer board has better spam control.. lol

sorry guys I'm under a mountain of work and can't commit to skinning a whole vbulletin thingy

also the inline theme editor really sucks and is super slow and frustrating to work with :[

I could touch it up just a bit. Getting rid of the background, gradients, some borders, etc Here's an example after a little time messing with the css:

Otherwise, you could always grab something off of themeforest.

v4 allows for image resizing with BBCode so I'm all for!

I just checked out some of the themes. I think that will be the easiest to do.

I honestly don't mind how the current beta looks with the slight touch-ups, but there are some pretty good looking themes for vb5 on themeforest for cheap.

anyone have any theme recommendations? I'm all ears and have no issue moving forward if we agree on a theme.

I wonder if themes that are designed for VB 4.x will work on VB 5.x. And if they will work with further versions?

Anyways, not many choices there - these two look decent:

                            http://themeforest.net/item/ideal-a-...e-theme/575401

                            http://themeforest.net/item/paragon-...-theme/4884888

Hopefully you can tweak then to do things like loose the side bars and widgets.

Would we be going with vb4 or 5?

As Garth mentioned earlier in the thread, once you go to 5.x there's no turning back. Based on my limited knowledge of the inner workings of vBull and the fiasco he and I dealt with trying to go implement 5.x on another forum, I'd suggest going to 4.x first. Admittedly that was with an early version of 5.x though, which was apparently fraught with issues.
