        And ......it's gone.

Just go rid of our 2012 e91 xdrive touring. Wife wanted something more "fun" now tht our son is older and doesn't want to play hockey anymore.
Had numerous little niggly things go wrong with ours, and some major things in the 30k miles we had it.

Now a cpo e82 135 cabby with warranty until march 2018

So far I haven't seen much on these other than water pump failures. but do these kids really think waterpumps & thermostats last forever? 100k seems like a pretty good lifespan to me. I wish there was a coolant gauge though...

We get them in at work every once in awhile. A few reasons while I,ll never own one...

-Waterpump(Electric) last 60-70k. Admittedly not bad for a waterpump. But expect to pay $700 in parts for the Pump and Thermostat
-PCV Valve is built into the Valve cover, they fail. You get a lean code. Costs $400 Or more for a new Valve cover. And their on Galactic Backorder.
              -No temp Gauge
-Transfer Case Actuators shit themselves on the AWD cars . Easy to replace but $700
-Ive only seen this once, theres an emission control sensor in the radiator, it goes bad, you need a whole new Radiator.

Id rather have an E46 ANY day of the week. Get me a nice 330Xi Manual. All day. Build Quality seems better. Less bullshit to go wrong.

See them every day at our shop.

Belt tensioners, water pump/thermostat, thrust arm bushings, oil filter housing gasket. There's a little gasket that seals to the eccentric shaft sensor plug on the valve cover that can go bad and take out that 300+ dollar sensor. Most shops mistakenly diagnose it as a valve cover leak when in reality its that little seal. Cooling systems are relatively solid though, aside from the pump. Keep up on oil changes and you won't have to do cam ledges. DMTL pumps sometimes. Alternator a couple. N/A cars are very reliable. Turbo cars are too aside from some weird issues sometimes.

E92 335i FBO on ethonal. Great cars but can be $$$ if you don't know how to fix them yourself.

$700 auto trans service. Filter is the pan. Also the electrical connector "mechatronix" adapter leaks and you must pull the trans pan to replace it.

                        auto trans = fail

thanks for the info on that little seal. my tensioners have been replaced, I need to call the BMW dealer in seattle to see if the waterpump has been done. they did some major work to it at around 50k miles, my hope is they did it at that time.

Liked my 325xiT (3 stage intake mani, aa tune/etc) main $$ is the electric water pump:

but i'm totally in love with my new 335d (carbon build up is an issue, but mine is CPO)

335i are really fun, but by far the most costly to keep on the road.

trans leaks are stupid easy to fix
valve cover gaskets are slightly annoying, especially on 335i
oil filter stand gaskets are easy
                          starters go out around 100-120k
vanos solenoids go out on 325/328/330 and are pretty easy/cheap
water pumps are kinda hard and def pricey.

All the direct injection motors carbon up. With a recirc'd ccv system, and no fuel coming in with the air charge, there is nothing to keep the valves clean.
