I think the Ford 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost might be a good E30 engine

Seems like the small lightweight turbo 4-cylinder from the Ford Focus ST would be a good candidate for an E30 swap. Ford Racing sells a crate engine and also an ECU and wiring kit . It looks like a salvage motor pulled from a 2013-14 ST runs about $3k. Mated up to a 6-speed I think it'd be pretty awesome.

I'd agree. depending on the complexity of adapting it to rwd it would be a monster. Few local guys have those ST's wrapped up over 300whp.

I wouldn't think it'd be too hard. The rear-wheel-drive Ford Falcon in Australia uses it. :)

Would like to see someone try this. Crate motor is like $7k so I doubt someone in here will. They are like 250hp from the box though.

          Solution
          1. Buy $500 beater
          2. do not license or insure
          3. target Focus ST
          4. smash said beater into focus ST
          5. Flee the scene by foot, air or donkey
          6. watch local insurance action
          7. PROFIT

That's actually kind of genius in an incredibly stupid way. I like it.

Robert (peerless) has done this. I cant remember the outcome. I will try to find the thread.

                  Pretty Awesome:

                  252 Horsepower @ 5,500 RPM
270 lb. ft. of torque @ 3,000 RPM
When used with Engine Control Pack M-6017-20T and 93 octane unleaded fuel, torque is increased 90 lb. ft at 2800 RPM - with a significant increase up to 4200 RPM.
All-aluminum construction - about 55 pounds lighter than a comparable naturally aspirated V6 engine

What about the Chevy ecotech motor? Came in rwd on the Pontiac solstice so transmission is less of an issue.

Somewhat relevant EcoBoost into a fox body.
