I do it for the chicks.
Actually, I do it so Heeter can spin off the track right in front of me while he is looking in the rearview mirror because my car is modded and his isnt. That sounds safe, right?

            think about this:

            Bud looks like piss,
            piss looks like bud,

and yet, the more bud you drink,
the less your piss looks like bud

I actually like fosters... I wish those darn cans would fit in the cupholders tho
            (kidding ...I don't have cupholders)

Speaking for myself, my car was nowhere near what *my* limits were, but now, we are in good shape together and yeah, given a chance, I would love to take her to the track. There is a possibility that at some point in the next 3-4yrs, I might wind up in school in TN and might then have access to tracks and the opportunities to enjoy them. We'll see.

I'm not done modding though, and will continue to make it a "better" car: 5-lug swap, upgraded steering rack, more motor(stroker most likely) etc. As I said before, eventually, I will get to a place where there's just nothing left to do.
I made no assumptions about anybody. I said that Heeter realized it was a mistake to do a whole lot of suspension work and then hit the track. I don't doubt that you're a more experienced and better driver than me, but everyone I've talked to whose been on a track, whether Dave and Heeter, or the instructor in the GTI with over a year of track days under his belt, or the FSAE team at college has said the same thing: Driving a stock car on the track is how you learn.

Most people here probably already have some kind of aftermarket suspension. That's fine, just don't think you have to mod the hell out of your car for it to be track worthy. Just do all the maintenance required for the tech inspection and take it out and enjoy it.

                  +1

it's about learning what it means to drive your car at the limit, whatever that limit is...

every driver's school I've ever been to has had some doofus in a megabux 'exotic car' who would get creamed and have no idea why...

if you're not driving at the limit you're going to be slower and *more dangerous* than the driver who is, even in drastically different cars.

Speaking of fancy cars going off.

At my DE, an Acura NSX went off the road twice, second time bringing shit loads of mud back on to the track. Yep. lol

Yes, Alex, this is way off topic. But, that's the fun of it! haha ;)

Speaking of "fancy cars", Lars' hood half-way came off, sending his fuse box cover, hood pins, etc all over my car. Now I have awesome knicks all over my roof.

Lol, I don't doubt for a second you'd kick my ass all over a track, but IF I do wind up in TN for some schooling it'll definitely be for more than just anesthesia!

While at Ole Miss, I used to make it up to the Memphis Motorsports Speedway for the PCA meets and hang out with those guys and watch them exercise their cars around the track. Awesome stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to return to excercise my own car and not just pick up a ride for the thrill.
