other than "Me", i'd say its because stock e30s pretty much suck and are generally unreliable, and it makes a lot more sense to buy crappy aftermarket stuff that expensive OEM stuff, plus its more fun to brag about cool 'go fast' parts....

But in reality, it seems to me that among regular posters (not lurkers) there are maybe a dozen or so that actually put these mods to their proper use.
So it got me thinking - why in the world are so many of you kiddies spending your minimum wages from Blockbuster or Subway or whatever on Stage IIIs, konis, big wheels, etc.
Seriously.
I have some Car Art boots and eur0h grilles sitting around. I saw your fancy nogaro wheels though, so at least I know I'm not the only one who's all about the looks :D

I mod my car for several reasons:
1. To upgrade worn-out parts
2. To be safer, faster and more enjoyable on quiet country roads
3. To be a fun, safe car to drive on the track
4. To be an aesthetic standout against all the stock E30s in my area (not many E30s here though)
I mod all my cars in different ways, but they've all got to achieve two things: look good and be fun to drive.Pork Hunt Motorsport

I voted Rob, because several proper options are not listed.
I mod my car because I enjoy changing things about it. I enjoy enhancing the visual style of my car, as well as the performance, both in regard to the engine and the handling of the car. I like to change things on the car to suit my tastes, and to go beyond what was originally intended for it. I do it to set it apart from other cars on the road, and from other BMW's. I do it to upgrade things on the car which in the 20 years since it was built, have been redesigned or upgraded by other companies. I do it because I like to.
My car is not the fastest on the road for sure, but it doesn't need to be to make it enjoyable. I've done a limited amount of things to the engine in regard to performance, and I plan to change that, but not to an extreme amount. I've also only done a limited amount to the suspension, but that will change also. I plan to start auto-x'ing this summer, so I'm looking to get more handling performance from the car.
I've gone to bigger wheels because I think they look better on the car than the small stock wheels. I like the look of lower profile tires, and bigger wheels. I'll stick to the stock wheels for auto-x (weaves), but the bigger wheels are for looks. I've chosen a lot of my mods based on what I've seen on the forums over the years, going off of what I've considered to be attractive, and partially what others think to be attractive. I like to get compliments on my car, and hear the comments about it when I show pictures of it. I'd be lying if I said I didn't ever do anything to the car because I like the attention it gets.
No doubt this thread was inspired by Heeter's being time-out-ed for slamming Jeremy about his THR CAB's, and I also have no doubt that he'll read this thread long before he's allowed back, so I know before I say it that probably everything I've written here will be classified by him and others as me being a ricer, or whatever you want to call it. Frankly, I don't really care. I modify my car because I enjoy working on it, changing things about it's performance and looks, and getting compliments and criticisms from people who are into it for the same reasons. You don't have to track or auto-x your car in order to give what you do to it a point. It's a hobby for me, something I'm very interested in.
