I want to put my car in "Hot Import Nights". Thats why. "putting their mods to their use" can mean so many things. The mods get put to their use as long as the buyer/owner sees them worthy and gets any sort of satisfaction from them, so the intended question was intended condescendingly. BUT I LOVE IT!

    Mariano

P.S. Enjoyment of driving, peoeple. Whatever that may mean.

my car is a street car - it gets me to work and to other places i want to go, but its more than basic transportation; driving is something i enjoy.

I've only added things to increase my sense of satisfaction when driving. I don't need racecar suspension, but i like good handling and a tighter feel, so i added a cupkit. euro ellipsoids so i can see better at night. a stereo so i can listen to music i like while driving. two sets of wheels/tires for better traction in winter and summer.

i don't have a crazy track car with a cage and racing shells and 900# GCs; i just have a responsive fun car i can drive everyday without issues. And maybe if this summer works out, i'll get out and auto-x a little bit, for the same purpose: enjoying driving.

I modify my car and leave it in the garage so I can look at it every once and a while.

I figured I'd remove the engine for weightloss too, that way I ca brag about having lost 250 lbs off the weight of my car!

              I am frickin AWESOME!!

But in all honesty...it started out with me just wanting to make my car better and have fun autocrossing...and possibly track time. Now that I've been to my first driving school...it's track. :D

Because i wanted to create MY ultimate street car... i genually like the e30 more than other cars new or old... i dont mind spending several times the worth of the car on mods... and i can afford to have a car that i put tops 1000 miles on a year and havent driven in a year...

Yup, it's like me showing up the STi guys last year. That was fun times, silly spoiled brats got all pissed, because the straight is huge, and they catch up to me by the end of the straight, but I'm gone through the corners. E30 sling shot.

Also, the guys that said girls don't like E30's, I think it's quite the opposite here at my University; every spoilled brat has an E46 that mommy bought, and when you pull up with a modded E30, everyone is like "woooh, that's different." Good different ;), and my car isn't a looker by any stretch of the imagination; in fact Dave, my car is the same thing your car is, with the exception of me using it as a daily, because it's fun as hell.

                        Keep it slideways!!

yeah. i didn't vote, because none of them really fit me.

                          Mods to the vert:

                          1. H&R fuh raze springs, and bilstein sports. Low on a coupe - real low on a cabby. Add to that speed bumps and NE roads, and needless to say, it's a challenge, and this is no Caddy ride. But, that's not what I wanted, and though I've moaned a few times about the lower ride on the car and scraping all over the place, I deal with it. Why? Because taking an onramp 10 MPH faster than I could in a stock E30 is that much more fun. Lane changes with zero body movement, curvy back roads that my car eats up - check. The ride is harsher than stock - but in return I get incredible handling characteristics - a trade I'd make over and over again.

                          2. Jim C chip. Goes without saying that everyone could use a little more oomph in their cars, and this is the easiest, cleanest and one of the most effective add-ons you can do to our cars. There's always a bit more you can squeeze out of our conservative ECU's - so why not do it? Yes, it sucks that I'm paying $3 a gallon for super - but I'm still paying less per week than I was with the Wrangler @10-12 MPG with 87. So to me, spending no more in gas per week but getting a few extra horses=tits.

                          3. Stromung exhaust. Yeah, maybe I got a few ponies. But what matters to me is the sound. There is nothing like it short of something that cost about 500 times what my car did. Far and away one of the best sounds I've ever heard. My opinion perhaps - but that's all that matters :) Every day I drive my car and hear that exhaust, I smile. And that's why it was worth putting on.

                          4. Euro smilies - better lighting is not only safer, but it makes driving that much more enjoyable. Sure, they look better - but who cares? You get better light output. Period.

                          5. Repainted side trim, grills, wipers, etc. Purely cosmetic. Showing that extra touch of attention means you care about your car, and it's not just a 20 year old beat up bimmer. Respect your car, and others will too.

Why do I mod? Because my car is a big part of my life, for better or worse. Good days or bad, rainy or sunny, I get behind that wheel and I smile. It's like an old friend that I get to be reacquainted with. Driving the car puts my mind at ease, and I get to relax and just enjoy being on the road. Forget about work, forget about bills, forget about the girlfriend, just drive. I went a year without a license years ago - it was torture. I use driving as a stress release - time to be alone with my thoughts, time to think. Without a license or a car, it was really difficult to find that time, to be able to sort things through. And driving an SUV or a pickup truck doesn't quite give you the same release driving an e30 does.

I'm constantly reading arguments that most of us would drive newer, better cars if we had the money. To me, this car is a part of me. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd dump as much money as it took to make my e30 vert perfect - because to me, a car with character, one that bonds with you, one that makes you feel like you're actually driving it, and not sending different signals to electronic sensors that compute your reactions and act accordingly, is the car I want to drive. My collection would consist of classic race cars, touring cars - all cars that were predominantly mechanical, not electrical. Sure, we've got a check panel that tells us if our brake light is out, or if our oil or coolant is low - that's terrific, but none of that takes away from the car's driving experience.

Another reason these cars are so enjoyable to work on and mod is that they're so damn easy to work on. Domestics aside, these cars are incredibly simple. No dealing with half axles into the tranny, no fighting with fender wells to change the timing belt. A very basic, yet tried and true design, that lends itself to the backyard mechanic. If I drove a new car and couldn't tinker or do the work myself, I'd be embarrassed. Nothing beats the end of a long day of wrenching and admiring your finished work. Nothing.

You don't have to track your car to mod it. While I may not agree with strictly cosmetic touches BEFORE modding your car to increase its driving experience or to make it reliable - to each his own. If the car is cooler to you sitting in the driveway with a sick paint job and a big fucking wing and...a snapped timing belt, then good for you. More power to you, my friend. But for me, I'll clean up the car as best I can, all the while making it a blast to drive, and as reliable as can be.

I started because I wanted to score chicks, but then I realized its an e30.
