2.2 5sp cavilear. Hard to kill and cheap to work on, bought one with 80k on it for 400 bucks thatneede a clutch in 04. Total investment 625 bucks . Will run like shit longer than most modern hondas will run at all. I used it as a work truck and drove it like I stole it every day for 3 years puttinng 100k on it. Sold it too a buddy with 180k and put aother 100k on it before he was tboned. Ever really needed anything but oil changes and a ac comp outside of normal maintenance itemsat normal. Intervals

My sister in law just got rid of hers, it was a 5 speed with an ungodly amount of mileage on it and I was always amazed that it never broke down. It looked like shit, everything on the interior was falling apart and the clutch was like pedaling a unicycle uphill, but it ran great. I mean, she beat the hell out of it too but it never broke down.

My wife had a corolla 5 speed and it was also indestructible. It faired a lot better than the cavalier in the looks department and things like door handles, trim etc. for the same amount of mileage but it was also super reliable. I think I put a starter on it at 120K and other than basic maintenance that was it.

GM makes a good car out of about every 100 cars they make. If you can't kill your cavalier you just happen to have that one. Drive into the ghetto where people don't take care of their cars and see what people are driving. Doubt you see any cavaliers. All old civics accords corollas tercels and camrys because those are the cars you can drive with no oil and they still won't die.

Wow I must be really lucky then, as most of my family has had nothing but GM, out of the 50+ combined gm vehicles we have had in my life time all have been dependable, and are hard to kill. Biggest issue any of us has had has been my current truck and injectors, but that's a local fuel quality issue not really gm's fault. Bosch if anything

I love when people say this. Know what you do when your car is overheating and you can't bring it back to normal operating temperatures? Turn it off and call a tow truck and fix the problem before your HG blows. It's quite simple actually.

That's what a responsible car owner would do. People that aren't responsible don't do that. They keep driving. If they were driving a BMW, they wouldn't be driving anymore. If they were driving a civic, they would just put more water in it and continue on their merry way. That's why you see so many old rusted out civics corollas tercels etc in the ghetto. You can treat them like garb age but they keep running.

Like I said, comes down to head material. An alum headed motor will always have hg problems if overheated. Nothing to do with bmw in particular

My e36 has over heated a few times due to blowing radiators I fixed that problem with a mishimoto but still I got ZERO head issues and the cars over heated atleast 4 times. Now I do shut it off before it ever gets close to red and limp it home.

Generally you can still be fine if it wasn't bad, I'm taking about the people that bury the temp needle.
