How much (average) could be made by parting out a running (and fully complete) e30?

Honestly, if it doesn't have much rust, you might want to market it on the east coast of Canada. Rust free cars are hard to find here in NJ, I can't imagine how bad it is up there. You should be able to find someone willing to pay what it's worth.

Very, the answer is very. What some deem destined for the scrap heap I will weld new rockers on. What passes for rust in California is only surface rust in Nova Scotia. It doesn't end, and they refuse to sand the roads. So salty air, salty roads, and constantly wet.

Basically this... unfortunately there isn't a reliable shipping company that I know of. However if you can find someone who is in the oil fields and is looking for a rust free car to bring back to the maritimes it might be worth a shot...

Im At about 4k on my part out. But I had some more rare parts that I bought in there. I found it was better to just respond to wtb ads because those people already know what they want and are willing to spend money.
But you will still deal with tire kickers and the I'll pay you Friday when I get paid types even though it's a $20 part. I've done it for 4 months now and it's a lot of work when your shipping even 8-10 boxes a week.

After being away for a while on Bow Island for a day, I've had time to reflect on this whole scenario.

So far, the following is my current position:

1. Nobody wants to pay me my asking price of $4500 on this car where I live. Many others in lesser condition are going for about $2500ish, so I cannot see myself getting much more, esp with the minor rust.
If I were to sell it and (like I posted in my motorbike thread) buy a sport touring bike, I'd have to spend an additional $5g's just to get a decent running bike plus all the accessories (helmet, jacket, rain gear etc). I really dont' want to spend that much on a new hobby. Driving this thing into a pole and writing it off or using it as a track car seems a far more worthwhile and entertaining way of getting the last life out of it.

2. I still absolutely adore the look of this car, as well as how it performs and so do many others. When I was pulling the carpet etc to inspect the car I was amazed at how well the car was put together. They simply dont' make them like this anymore! Not to mention the cars' svelte lines, small proportions and retro styling are all what keep these cars popular with the kids (both young and old).

3. I still want to take a road trip soon. Especially along the PCH.
I have considered doing it with a rental car but that's kinda boring to be honest. That's where a nice bike would be cool. The e30 would be even better!

4. Finally and most importantly, if someone were to purchase my car for ~ $2500, considering the repairs I've put into the car in the last year or two, the overall condition of the car (a/c still works, as well as all the electronics), and how I still enjoy driving the thing I see it as a total waste. That amount of money I could save up in no time at all. The money really is of no issue to me considering I bought this car cash 11 years ago.

as well as other shops in SoCal who do respectable work for FAR cheaper than what I'd pay here in Canada. Sure there's the transportation and border crap to deal with, but that's all part of the trip I want to do.

My plan is to drive the car the 23 hours it takes from where I live now, to Tijuana/SoCal, drop it off and catch a flight back home. Then once the car is done, I'd either have it shipped back to Canada or drive back down to pick it up with a trailer and continue slowly modding my hobby car after that.

In terms of risk of screw up, I've taken that into consideration too. Lets say I get car-jacked/ the car gets stolen/ I smash it up on the way to the destination. Considering the car really owes me nothing, and is worth only a few thousand tops, I think it's not losing much at all. As long as the car and myself are insured, I can't see anything going wrong.

Obviously I'd have to look into the legal aspects of the trip as well as insurance coverages, but if all goes well, this will be my next "big trip", one I've wanted to take for a very long time

Re 1b: You don't seriously want to try and have fun on a motorbike on the Rain Coast do you? 3 months of the year it doesn't rain, the other 9 is perfect E30 weather: That is, having a roof is more pleasant than being a sodden lump of shivering misery sliding under trucks and over curbs.
Contrast "Pull on still-damp mouldy smelly rain gear" with "Close door, turn on heat".
1c: To me, making a good roadable E30 into a track car is the same as parting it. (Flame On?)

Which car do you have? I mean sport seats are worth a lot more than comforts. An automatic isn't as sought after as 5 speeds. You aren't going to get more than scrap value for bottle caps.

Never mind that the people in the local shops will speak English. And the little bit of rust repair done on the car in that thread looks questionable at best. I'm thinking it will probably rust again. I'm guessing they don't have to do much rust repair in TJ, and it shows.
