Ebay pricing is soo far off of what the part is actually worth, if stuff actually sold for such absurd prices people would be getting 6 grand for parting out an e30. if a seller even references ebay pricing i walk away from the deal.

I really hate this too, even if people don't share the exact sold price at least leave your original price up so people can get a bearing on the market or else everyone says 500obo on everything. I think it would be nice if people said what an item sold for.

Yeah, the only way to accurately reference eBay pricing is the price of a item recently sold to a high bider. Buy it now prices, or list prices on eBay are useless.

When I fist started parting out my car I found this really annoying, I didn't know what anything was worth, but through eBay and a couple of threads I at least got a decent price. I like the idea of putting "Sold" and the dollar amount in the tittle.

I thought I threw a line about this into the classified rules back when I updated them last, but I don't see it in there anymore. I just added it back in, I agree that it is very useful and I don't see a downside.

It would be nice have a for sale feedback section like ebay does. If I have a good experience with someone I'm more likely to hand them more money

Ebay can be extremely accurate if you know what to look for. Buy it now prices or starting prices are poor references but parts that have been bid on or sold can be a good reference.

You are correct but I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. If you are suggesting we don't price based on prior sales I think you may be missing the point, which is to find a starting point to offer it up for, which can be a struggle if you don't know what they've gone for in the past.

On ebay you can look at "items recently sold like this" and see what they sold for.

I'm surprised this is such an issue with so many... the last car I parted out I just picked my own prices without doing any research at all. Probably made $1500 on the whole car. Took me less than a week to get rid of everything including the carcass.

For example sold the intake manifold with fuel rail, throttle body, and injectors for $50 + shipping. Is it too little? Maybe, but I don't care... I don't want to sit on parts forever. I price things to get sold STAT. I want my PM box full with people saying paypal ready now.

I guess some here are trying to get every single penny possible?

I use it more as a sanity check. I've found that if I'm really trying to sell something I'll list it lower than market value because I'd rather it be out the door as soon as possible rather than holding on to it waiting for the right buyer...

yes, well, we definitely have our share of retards here.

i have to agree that we should be leaving the info on our for sale threads as a trail for those that come after us. this is what i have been doing all along. it probably isn't that big of a deal for something run of the mill like bottle cap wheels or a tail light, but what about an mtech 1 spoiler or hartge rear valance? they don't come up too often. how the hell would you know how to price those if you had never seen one sell?

That's great, but some of us want to get what our stuff is worth

It's a little different when you're parting a car anyway, that's a lot of parts to move and a lot of space being taken up. Plus if you're just taking wild guesses there's just as good of a chance of overpricing it as there is under.

Most of the stuff I sell is aftermarket anyway, worth finding the appropriate price for, stock stuff worth less than $30-40 or so often just goes in the trash.

On the other side of things, it helps buyers to know if they're getting a decent price on something or if they should wait for the next one to come along.

i always pull the prices after stuff sells (if I remember too), sometimes I pull all of the information too. its for personal privacy, not everything on the internet has to be saved for random strangers to see. money is not something i like to advertise, whether its spending or receiving. not everyone feels that way, but its my choice.


if you are selling something, do the research on value. if you don't find anything, then your buyers are going to find anything either. obviously, ebay tends to be like the 'kelly blue book' of prices. for the average person, they may find it reasonable. for us guys in the community, we know stuff can be bought for cheaper.

its sounds less like you want a 'fair market' and more like you dont want to spend more time researching.

i've sold a handful of parts which were one-offs, custom, or very rare so there was no info. you just have to find something similar, adjust your price, and take an educated guess at what people might actually spend.
