I thought it was pretty common knowledge that BMW carried over the smallest displacement engine models longer than the rest of the range .
I know the E21 315 and 316 carried well into the E30's production but I'm not sure how long they actually made the smaller displacement E30's .Comment

IT 320is arnt really that rare. ive seen a good 10 since ive been here in DE. however I have yet to lay my eyes on a e30 M3 'vert. so im gonna go with that. a convertible e30 M3.Comment

The only thing I can think of is that possibly when the last of the '89 cars were painted Schwarz, maybe they'd stopped using that paint color, and they'd already had all of the bumpers painted Diamond-Schwarz, so they just went ahead and used them. Because as far as I know, and I could be wrong here, there weren't any Schwarz cars past '89, they were all Diamond-Schwarz.
