Stop downplaying the idea - load yourself up with a fire suit and extinguisher and give this shit a shot - at the very worst you set your car on fire, and at best you develop a balls ass crazy jet powered turbo setup that is hilariously awesome.

good question - you make a valid point, but i won't be able to do the v8 swap for another two years due to emissions reasons, so in the meantime i can turbo the m52. i know that sounds really stupid, but all the state wants to do is plug a scanner into the car and make sure the VIN pulled up on the computer matches the one in their records. after my last emissions test i can finally put historic plates on my car and never worry about that again.

also, technically, this idea is actually better at lower revs than a supercharger. think about it this way - here's a before/after dyno graph of a 350z after installing a supercharger.

notice how while the supercharger still has a linear power curve, it doesn't quite follow the same curve as the stock engine? i mean, it obviously can't since it's output is dependent on engine RPM, only not as much as a turbo's. notice how it goes from an initial 10% increase in power to a 45% increase? obviously it takes some RPMs to get the blower up to its set boost level (which is probably about 7psi based on the power increase)

my proposed setup, in theory, would be a 45% power increase across the board since full boost levels would be available at any engine load or operating speed. as a visual, here's the same dyno graph, edited to show stock vs my setup at the same boost settings (queue more shitty art skills)

you can see how at a constant 45% increase in airflow there is a tremendous difference in power. essentially, it's almost like you took the OE power curve and dragged it up on the graph. i mean look at that shit... that's practically a stock ls1 torque curve / ft/lb level

maybe i'm doing something wrong with my estimations, but i'm pretty sure this would work as planned

So you're getting rid of the boost lag with a crazy turbojet and then putting it back with a remote mounted turbo.

          1. remote mount turbos aren't as bad with lag as people make them out to be

          2. theoretically, i could have this turbo setup on a trailer 30 feet away from the throttle body and there still wouldn't be any lag. the cold side pipes are being constantly pressurized. like, to the point where when the throttle is closed the BOV starts releasing a gale-like force of air

basically there won't be any lag, period

Keep in mind that is a centrifugal type blower, which isn't very efficient down low. If you run a roots type blower, your low end is going to increase to the level that I think you're hoping for if you do it right.

That's what some of the anti- lag systems do, but they use the primary turbo. Add extra fuel,
a way to light it in the exhaust manifold, and viola, you have a small turbine engine under your hood.

At that point, though, why not just go full turbine engine and get rid of all
                    those messy pistons and valves?

Because, shit, under the hood will start to look like an exploded plumbing experiment gone bad...

there is more than likely a very good reason you have never thought of it........

seems like slightly better idea than this
