    Anyone carry a tool kit or breakdown kit?

    Aside from the factory jack and tool kit (and my AAA membership) I carry a tool roll that covers some of the basics:

    3/8" ratchet with 10mm-19mm, 6" extension, 3" extension, and a u-joint.
    Needle nose pliers
    Channel lock pliers
    6in1 screw driver with an additional bit set that covers torx and metric hex
    Adjustable wrench
    Zip ties
    Red mechanics rag

    Looking to add 5mm-9mm sockets but that's about it.

    It rolls up to about the size of a spray paint can or small fire extinguisher and rides on top of my battery tray cover in my e36.

    I don't carry any spares besides bulbs, touch up paint, and the tire obviously.

    It's also a handy thing to have around if I feel like taking a stroll through a junk yard or need to make an adjustment on my mountain bike.

    Anyone else carry something similar?

    My Jeep is my daily, but all I carry in it is a 108 piece Craftsman kit that I picked up for $50. Plus a fire extinguisher in the back in a convenient pocket that Jeep put in it for no reason. And also a 2D cell Maglite mounted on my console next to my leg that has been fitted with a glass breaking tail and police strike bezel.

      My "breakdown kit" consists of a custom picked tool kit i can fit in my trunk tool kit, assorted fuses, zipties, road flares, factory jack+2x4, fire extinguisher, spare wheel and a swiss army knife.
      Obviously i hope i never have to use any of that stuff God forbid but, it's nice to have some security and not be that unfortunate guy.

        I have a small socket set, screwdriver set, and miscellaneous wrenches, pliers, vice grips in a small tool box. Jumper cables, air pump, spare tire.

        My trunk mounted tool kit is complete. I have a few zip ties, plus extra oil and coolant. Also some extra bulbs, relays etc. I usually keep my old V-belt in the car.

          I have a tool bag that stays in my car. Covers most of what I need to work on it. Ratchet, sockets, wrenches, channel locks, allen keys, screwdrivers, wire cutters then maybe a few misc items. Its in a soft lunch box type carrier, and it doubles as my tool bag for the junk yard so Im always ready to go parts searching.

          Besides that the trunk has spare oil and coolant (leftovers from last change), jumper cables and of course factory jack.

            I made up a tool box:




            Then I also carry an extra quart of oil, fleece blanket, tow rope, traction sand (for snow/ice), folding shovel, few rags and a gas siphon hose.

              I like how you've organized your tools.

              I drive an outback wagon in the winter and it's outfitted similarly.

                On long trips, I always equip my car with a tool kit just in case. I usually add a selection of open end metric wrenches, needle nose, multimeter, fuses, spare parts I have not changed yet like fuel pump, ign coil, coil packs if driving my M, flashlight, etc. better to be safe than sorry.

                  I always keep with me

                  - Craftsman 108 piece (I think) 1/4 + 3/8" socket set with Snap-On Long Handle flex head ratchet + extensions

                  and in a milk crate there is:
                  - Wrench roll, 8mm-22mm
                  - Breaker Bar with 17mm deep socket (need it for my wheels' stud kit)
                  - Various Screwdrivers
                  - Multimeter, came in really handy last weekend when my brother's e28 didnt want to start
                  - Rags, hand cleaner, can of brake cleaner
                  - jumper cables
                  - zip ties
                  - quart of 20w50 castrol GTX

                  Probably forgetting some things.

                    I don't have any pics, but a guy I used to work with kept spare upper and lower radiator hoses and a couple belts zip tied to the underside of his trunk lid. He was/is into rallying, so that was his mindset. Kept it all out of the way, and was space that would never have been used otherwise. I thought it was pretty slick, actually looked cool in a utilitarian kinda way, too.

                        ^ that's pretty badass. Like how the oem tool kit is on the under side of the trunk lid.

                        Most of my tools are in my car. I have one of those 100 piece Craftsman multi kits with short and long sockets from 8mm-22mm in 1/4 and 3/8 inch drive, a wrench set from 6mm-19mm, a couple breaker bars, a shorty ratchet which is useful for fan belts, a few screw and socket drivers, a torx set, reverse torx set, a hex set which fits into a 3/8 ratchet, a set of ratcheting wrenches, motor oil, coolant, brake fluid, and a funnel. Also jumper cables, the trifecta: paper towels, kleenex, and toilet paper (for when the going gets rough), a multi meter, and of course zip ties. Though I need to stock up on those. And lastly, my car didn't come with a jack so I bought one of those lightweight HF jacks to keep in the back. Still not sure if I should carry one or two jack stands...

                            Don't keep high dollar tools in my cars anymore. Had my car stolen back in 2003, the tools just made it easier for the thieves to strip the car completely.
