Think Tank - Plugs for vacuum ports on boosted motor

Time to put on your thinking caps, and some mean to the collective pot of knowledge.

Back story, I've done quite a bit of fab work for a friend that's putting a built KA24 into a Datsun 510. He has the entire motor done and realized there are (5) vacuum port for the factory system that he doesn't need and wants plugged. He asked me to just weld them up but the intake has a beautiful powder coat job already.

I was thinking snug silicone caps but I'm afraid they may turn into little missiles under extreme boost.

Any Ideas? A clean solution without using ghetto hose clamps?

    Proceed Gentlemen.....and ladies.

your last sentence just gave me an idea for a poll, probably been done before but we'll see

as far as your friends' intake manifold goes.. yeah, welding them shut would probably be hard to make look good. i'd pull the nipples out and thread them for some stainless steel pipe plugs. will look good and functional

if it's a relatively low boost setup you might be able to get away with some snug silicone caps, sounds like a vacuum leak waiting to happen though

Whats the best way to rip the nipples out? it's not low boost at all.....he's running a 6266.....I like that plug idea though.

most of those nipples are press fit, aren't they? maybe bolt the manifold down to something, then use a slide hammer to get them off? you'd have to have the attachment that lets you put a vice grip onto the shaft

can't find a picture of the attachment i have, but here's a DIY version. word on the street is that you've used a welder one or two times, maybe you can make one of your own?

I actually have one.....didn't even think of that. Hopefully I can get at them with it though. weird spot on the manifold up underneath.

hmm, might have to drill it then. would a drill even get up in there? it's not for the PCV valve is it? because i remember those are a goddamn nightmare to replace on the KA

No, 4 of them are right at the head side of the manifold where the flange bolts up but on the bottom side. I'm not really familiar with these motors so I'm not really sure what purpose it serves.

I've used silicone caps and zip ties up over 20psi with no issues. Black caps, little black zipties, looks clean to me :-D
