        too late, i already bought it. considering a swap, but it would have to be a 4 cylinder. S14s cost too much, and i kinda like the M10...unless theres a more reliable strong block to start from? I'd be building it up and most likely boosting it

          Your willing to hassle with a swap, but only another 4 banger? why waste the effort? m10 or m42, choice for boost would be m10, but I'd still rather throw a six in.

            adverage owned m10 e30 will last 150-200k, same as a U.S. e21. About the same weight, about the same stuff.

            difference is that the owner of a e30 m10 will have paid a lost less for it, and so will have not garraged it.

            Every 318i I've seen needs full repaint, and suspention. and have valves clicking like at set of m16 under the hood.

            I drove a e30 m10 for a week - and I swear to god - it would make a AWESOME "starter" car for a noob that want's to learn to drive. It's really a go-kart on wheels. All the suspention you need, and none of the TQ to get you in trouble. It really have to learn how to carry weight into the corner, and how to balance the car with out TQ.

            No one is going to read this, or believe it anyways, - so who cares...

                to the OP: a DIY rebuild would probly be quicker and easier then finding a low-mileage m10

                  The car has a year-old paint job, and the suspension feels only a *little* soft. The only reason I want to find another M10 is because I don't want the car to be undrivable. What are the odds of finding an M10 at a junkyard in Indiana?

                  OH and the reason I'd want a 4 cylinder is because I like the low weight of the 318 and I wouldn't want to throw off the balance.

                  SO FAR the things I'm considering are
                  * MegaSquirt (I used to have this on my FC so no problem here)
                  * Stroker crank (not sure what cranks I can use)
                  * Overbored (not too much though)
                  * Bigger MAF? What donor cars should I look at?
                  * Bigger throttle body
                  * Turbocharger of course, still deciding on which one
                  * Bigger injectors (I'll figure out HOW big when I decide on a turbo)

                  Thats all I can think of at the moment, if Im forgetting anything tell me

                      Just turbo a stock engine. If it works, then think about overboring/stroking a new block. IMO, don't experiment with too many variables the first time around.

                      If you don't want to drift a turbo, there's always a supercharger. I remember reading sometime back about a 318i rally beater that had a roots blower slapped on it.

                      I think a 318i could be made into a drifter. Get some torque, or get some shitty alignment specs (Rear toe out), or a tail happy suspension setup (a massive rear/no front sway setup) and you'll be good to go :up:

                        Man, this thing is wasy to drift! Some heavy braking and a quick scandanavian flick and you're sideways, and the M10 has plenty of power to sustain the drift on these econotires. The steering response is awesome, but the rear end squats a little much for my liking. Some new springs might be in order. The way most of you guys were talking it sounded like this thing was impossible to slide

                                I really only drift in this big deserted parking lot by a local mall, or in the parking lot at the korean presbytarian church. occasionally if theres nobody around ill hit a corner, but i dont go 100%...i live out in the boondocks, plenty of deserted roads. i know its still a big possibilty, but i guess thats a risk im willing to take. and I won't blame it on anyone else...ill straight up admit that i wadded my shit up like a n00b..i mean it happens to the best of us right?
