The fall of R3v?

There's no Australian e30 dedicated site. There is BMWForums.com.au that covers all BMWs - it was formerly the European Car Club of Australia forums, but the original founder decided to take the name and start up an actual car club + the forum only really got BMW traffic anyway (and the odd Mercedes owner).
The forum there seems to have slowed down quite a bit in recent months - seemingly due to the rise and rise of Facebook.

But really there are amazing builds in this magical land you just need to skim the forum some more.
For starters, although not E30, check out Chubbychowders 2002 build (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...oundie+revival).
Check out Cabriolet's restoration on this 4 door (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...251334&page=14).
If you want to blame scene kids for the destruction of this forum, you definitely need to read the build thread by R3v's very own scene kid, Absorbantnut (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...t=absorbantnut).
I know that not all of the posts are stimulating every day, but R3v will never be a JDM forum. I have learned an unhealthy amount of information about the E30 from this forum and still do every day I come on here. This is R3v, bullshit is the first chapter in our bible, but once you skim past the bullshit we have a solid community of true E30 enthusiasts to this day. Sure the community has been diluted by "maxing out your coilovers", BBS RS', and Accuair/Airlift, but that's what a lot of us like and I would say plenty of those builds are worthy of even the OG's respect. For example e30abe89 is on air, had BBS RS', and once was on Coilovers yet his build is awesome and the E30 is beautiful, (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...270564&page=13).
The E30 community is not dying, it's simply changing and evolving with the times. Not all of the community is main stream and we still have cool unique builds pop up all of the time. I could link tons and tons of builds from my subscription list that would impress the average R3ver. This community is diverse and fits every ones liking. If you are a real R3ver, then go haze some kids! Shit, go destroy my emotions on my terrible build thread! I have only been here for several years, but I like to think I can defend it when someone says its going down the shitter.
So OP, buy another E30 that fits your bill, make another build thread, and show us how the old timers do things;D. Come one, come all, R3v still kicks ass with even more kick ass builds.
More E30's and builds worth linking for your entertainment:

I've been a member of about 5 or 6 online communities. Forums always start out good, and the more people from the general population get in, the shittier the quality of the forum becomes.
The first 15%-25% to sign up are always the ones making quality posts and contributing to the community.
Edit: it is also 2015, the fun police shut everything nice down.Last edited by anabolice30; 08-04-2015, 10:18 AM.

A couple of months back I noticed the Facebook page had tons of members and posts. I can see why:
-Easy to Like things to popularize certain posts or comments
-Slightly easier to embed pictures/videos
-Most people are already on FB for other reasons so it is more convenient to use it to view R3v content and to share things you already see on FB. Also, people accidently stumble on r3v stuff there when they aren't even intending to view it
-Basically, FB is a one-stop shop these days, like it or not
Personally, earlier posts sum up my reasons for not going to r3v often:
-Work
-Kid
-Sold my e30 for an e36 M3.sigpic
2003 BMW 540i/6 M Sport
1997 M3 (sold)
1989 320i Touring (sold)
1990 325i (sold)
1991 535i/5 (sold)
1986 325es (sold)

I have enjoyed my time here. I started with BimmerForums first, then came over here as well. At least those two forums are being used.
One day when bored, I went over to Unofficial BMW... DEAD - at least on the E30 side.
Yeah, there are a lot of dumb questions, but that's because people can't or won't search.
I have over a hundred pages and forum threads bookmarked in their own BMW folder. If I come across anything I think I may need down the road, I bookmark. Plus I have moved the links around so they are generally organized.
Forums definitely seem to be a dying breed though, but I think R3V can weather the storm.
And yes, can we control the spam threads better at all? Why can't they just be deleted when they are found? That is probably the most annoying thing for me on this forum.Estoguy

closed registration is why E30tech is dead. you need new people to keep a place alive..
the spam is annoying but we delete it as fast as we can. it's a little better now, I don't always wake up to 40-60 spam posts on the first page anymore.
Also, facebook is not new - it's been around as long as R3v has. I don't really see it taking over everything. I mean, really, facebook sucks. I have an account that I check once in a while, but I'm not going there to talk about car stuff. If I want to see which of my "friends" is a bigoted white supremacist, or see pictures of peoples food or how drunk they got last night, facebook is the place. the r3v facebook page is a testament to that. I haven't even looked at it, but I hear it's terrible...
