r3v predates Facebook

According to the webz, FaceBook officially started on February 4, 2004. Prior to that it was a site that students from a few colleges could access (Zuckerberg apparently started it during his sophomore year). R3V has been around since late summer/fall of 2003 (my join date here is Oct 2003) and it came to be after its predecessor "E30Sport.net" which TJ created went offline for various reasons which I won't go into here. E30Sport was around for a least a couple years before R3V. So its debatable who was here first, but this place has been around a long time. The real OGs here will remember the sites that predated this place....RoadFly, BEN, Dave's BayE30.net, Fred's stictlyeta.net, etc. Those go back to freakin' Y2K days.

Now as for the fall of R3V - I don't think so. This site has been around for close to a dozen years and many of the original members are still here. Others come and go but there is a core of enthusiasts which remain. A lot can happen in a decade or so......people get careers, get married, have a family, etc. They still check in and post, just not as much as they used to (I'm certainly no exception to this). I don't see things as spam and user activity decreasing as a sign of this site going down the tubes. Its just evolving....and given the sheer numbers of members and posts, it ain't going anywhere for a while.

closed registration is why E30tech is dead. you need new people to keep a place alive..

the spam is annoying but we delete it as fast as we can. it's a little better now, I don't always wake up to 40-60 spam posts on the first page anymore.

Also, facebook is not new - it's been around as long as R3v has. I don't really see it taking over everything. I mean, really, facebook sucks. I have an account that I check once in a while, but I'm not going there to talk about car stuff. If I want to see which of my "friends" is a bigoted white supremacist, or see pictures of peoples food or how drunk they got last night, facebook is the place. the r3v facebook page is a testament to that. I haven't even looked at it, but I hear it's terrible...

Maybe not in the traditional sense, though. I stopped coming around probably 4 years ago because of school and work, though I still have my E30. Instead of asking the internet for opinions, I just went out and figured shit out. I also kind of stopped posting the development story of my car, so even though I still worked on/autocrossed/tracked it, I just didn't post about it. I am also less likely to put in my $0.02 when there are already 50 responses in a thread. I bet I'm not the only one out there who kind of moved on a bit, and a different generation has filled in in the interim.

Fall of r3v? No, but it is different, and a lot bigger. More people and posts make it much harder/more time consuming to stay engaged.

Oh, and the facebook page sucks, but maybe I'm just getting old.

I'm about 3 seconds away from removing my self too. I try to be helpful but some of the kids on there are just......ugh. For example yesterday a kid was complaining about the way to hood opens on the e30 and felt the e36 hood was more practical and wanted to retrofit the e36 stuff to the e30. I tried telling him that the practicality of the direction that the hood opens wouldn't outweigh the unpracticality of going through the process. A few other older members on there agreed with me and gave hime ideas for quick release hoods, but then the kid went all "I'm fueled by the haters" and "hate me cause you ain't me" on us. The part that irritated me is that I wasn't even trying to be an asshole I was just trying to help him out. I even told him even though I might have sounded like king dick head I was just trying to help. Anyways just wanted to give my Facebook experience.

Edit: I do however love the tagging feature on Facebook and be able to just hit a like button, but other than that its only use is free entertainment.

LOL Wow. Yeah, I love the forward opening hood. Not to mention the safety of it... even if the latch went, you could still drive it at any speed.

It's one thing I miss in the newer BMWs.

only thing i don't like about the classic forward opening hood is it's more inconvenient to work on stuff near the front of the engine bay. other than that it's all positives - anyone who's had a hood flip up and bust their windshield can appreciate the forward opening design

I like the C4s. More precisely a 96 Grand Sport. Plus I wouldn't turn down an LT1/LT4 or LT5 car.

i dunno man.. it's so hard to like the c4 when compared to the c5, especially considering the price gap between the two isn't really that big (is it just me or does everyone still want a shit ton of money for their c4s?)

I'm just not a big LSx fan or a fan of the more rounded body. I have no idea about the price gaps, haven't looked a Vette prices.

Absolutely! No doubt my favorite generation. That, and I love the Grand Sport and the funky auto/manual gearbox the C4 had for a bit.
