          Its likely there will be a significant market adjustment. If the article is true and only 300 units will be sold in the US @185k expect dealers to be asking well above sticker. The last i8 my dealer sold went for $30k over sticker price.


          Stupid money I know but it seems BMW is doing a really great job of capturing the wealthy buyers who are willing to pay a lot more for a semi collectable/ limited availability vehicle.


          While most of us here are not fans of modern Bmws or any newer car for that matter here is something I learned while at the 2016 G12 7 Series Launch in Newport Beach CA.

          Our instructor from BMWNA was kind enough to give my group the real rundown on newer cars and why they are the way they are. Its called CAFE standards. Yes CAFE. Its a mindless acronym and I cant remember what it stands for but here is the basics.

          Every vehicle manufacturer must follow a certain MPG AVERAGE. This average must meet or exceed 27MPG. So that means BMW must obtain this average across the board with every model it makes in order to stay in business so to speak. In just 10 years the average MPG target for any given manufacture will be 46 MPG. Insanity? Tell me about it.


          Consider how important efficiency in a vehicle is. It literally defines almost every aspect of the car and this is why car manufactures now are making vehicles that 1 look like shit and 2 look almost identically. Want to know what the windshield angle on a new Lexus is? You may not care but its 31 degrees. What about Audi? Yep, 31 degrees. Bmw? You guessed it 31 degrees.

          Dont forget all the low line brands as well. They all share the same characteristics. Hyundai Kia Toyota Ford blah blah blah.

          Not sure if anyone knows or cares but did you know that Aston Martin purchased a massive about of Scion Iq's You know that little shit box that kind of looks like a smart car??? Yep. They bought em, stripped em down and slapped an Aston Martin badge on them. Wanna know why? Cause they need a 27MPG average as well and you know straight up the new DBS or Vanquish doesnt get anywhere close to that.


          My instructor mentioned he owns 8 BMWs 4 of which are e30s 1 being an e30 m3. Wanna know what he had to say about Bmws classic dual headlight design we all love. BY FAR THE WOST AERODYNAMIC DESIGN EVER CREATED LOL. Bottom line. We will never see it again. Better yet we wont see anything with real style anymore and that is why the M4GTS looks like shit. Its also why the new G12 looks like a 5 Series.

              it's true.. also, European pedestrian safety standards - why the front end of the car is so blunt, and why we ended up with the awful "slab sides" and high beltlines to keep the proportions similar.

              It's also why, soon enough, manual transmissions will not be an option, only slushboxes and DCTs.

              the M4 - meh. The 4 series is BMW finally just saying fuck it, our cars are fat and bloated OK - take the belt off and put on some sweatpants!

                  The Americans took over and didn't realize that E meant something, and thought it was alphabetical order. :p

                  actually, I think it has something to do with the new chassis and powertrains - evolutionarily, all of the E series cars were fairly similar in engineering. F series were a little different (crap electric steering mostly), the G series is like hybrid/electric powertrains and carbon fiber composite bodies.

                  BMWs lineup is so confusing these days. Other than the 3 and X series, I don't know what half the cars I see are supposed to be.

                    This community, and thread in particular, is much more refreshing than those fanboys at bimmerpost who love everything BMW does and lease a new BMW every time their is a facelift or refresh.

                    I agree with those that don't like the new BMW designs. Car design across all manufactures has been very bleh IMO. All very 'ricer' looking to me and designs with a shelf-life of about 0-3 years.

                    Don't even get my started on how horrid I think these new interiors look!

                            And it doesn't include a wing that looks awful and tacked on...

                            That wing does look like an eBay wing! Why couldn't they have done like Porsche's gt3, sti or evo etc. and made the wing actually look like it was meant to be there. They've done good looking wings before with the e30M and e36 LTW and GTs. The world is filled with cars with wings that are and look factory and not like eBay bs...

                              I love the 1M like it was my child. The 1-series and the 1-series hatch (which they should fucking bring to the States) are both great. It's the bigger cars that I'm not feeling at the moment.

                                Because if they aren't turning out a new design every 3-4 years then people stop buying. The only examples I can think of that has stayed away from this are the VW group, and they've got their own issues apparently.
