I drive a BMW; and Yes, I DO think I'm better than You

Nice car op, was a shame what happened to your wheels but it could have been much worse. People suck at driving no matter where you go. I have been hit by stupid people, drunk people and I have avoided countless accidents. No matter how courteous or defensive you are it almost seems inevitable that things will happen. It seems even worse when I'm in my bmw so I tend to only drive it later on in the day when there are less people on the road. Which sucks because I really enjoy driving it. When I am in my tundra people tend to tailgate less and give a bit more respect, maybe because of its size or the fact that they aren't jealous (or whatever)of the badge it wears.
People suck and that will never change. Dash cams are a good idea although you can still easily be killed or lose your car that you have worked so hard for.sigpic

Completely serious; I am by the books gun-safety; I would never dare to have a gun loaded in the car or even outside a lockbox in the cabin for any reason. That was simply a sarcastic joke that possibly didn't go over well
But I am buying the guns; cause guns make loud noises and blow stuff up and the 5-year old in me tells me that's cool, and he's never wrong
This is what I keep repeating to myself; I'm glad it didn't escalate to a point where I would have regretted decisions: totalling my car, or much much worse. A curbed wheel and a tire is a drop in the bucket compared to an entire car or a lifeLast edited by JinormusJ; 11-04-2015, 06:29 AM.Comment

Unfortunately this is true. We have so much available to us now that we take for granted. We may have advanced technologically in the last 50 years but we have regressed as a society in many of the ways you mentioned. It sucks that your car got messed up and that some asshat lady decided to cause an accident because of her jealousy and ignorance. This is a much wider spread (global) problem that comes down to one thing, the education/upbringing one gives to his children or receives from their parents.
Being courteous, polite and considerate of others are no longer common place occurrences...unfortunately, and contrary to popular belief do not make one a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles.
That said, people really don't take care of their cars at all anymore, especially rich people. I worked valet last year at a ski resort and holy shit some people a complete slobs and abuse their cars. There were some really nasty luxury (BMW and Lexus drivers I'm looking at you) cars that I parked that I just didn't want to touch anything inside because of how nasty they were. A lot of those cars had obvious mechanical problems due to neglect. Most of them had check engine lights of one sort or another, worn tires, and just didn't drive right.
I watched one guy try to get a Porsche Panamera unstuck from his parking spot in the snow for 20 minutes. When he finally pulled up the the hotel entrance I noticed that ones of his front tires was completely bald. Turns out he "ran over a pothole last week" and didn't get the alignment fixed. Dude had summer tires on and must have thought that the AWD meant he could drive in the snow with bald tires. Guy was an asshole too...
Most of them were from Massachusetts... Those were often the cars that were parked illegally blocking fire lanes and bus routes, making up their own spots on the grass/snow, blocking the whole parking lot.Last edited by itsonlygeorge; 11-04-2015, 06:37 AM.sigpic

Have you driven a brand new civic or any new halfway decent car? Most are objectively better than an e30.
I think the surprise that an e39 is better than an e30 is laughable. The e36 is also far and away a better car. We still all own e30s, well, except you.AWD > RWDComment

According to Exodus's sig, he doesn't
I don't understand where you think I implied I hated e30s? I have grown to hate my own out of the sheer amount of work and money thrown at them and they still weren't the cars I wanted them to be, but I never said the e30 platform was terrible. I'm comparing it to a car 2 generations newer; not exactl a fair assessment, just my experience
One day I will own another e30 M3; but unless it's an M3, I'm passing on e30s all together
And yes, I have driven a new Civic, a new Optima, a new Mazda 3, and have hated all 3; they are pseudo luxury wrapped in a cheap econobox shell with zero ingenuity; I have preferred my e30 over them on numerous occasions. Now, the e39 however: that's a car I'll gladly give up the game forLast edited by JinormusJ; 11-04-2015, 07:00 AM.Comment

I don't often run into this. I did once earlier this year when I took the E30 to work. Some guy got really miffed that I was in front of him (I pulled out while he was like 500' away), then we were on a narrow bridge and there was a guy on a bicycle in front of me which I couldn't pass (a common occurrence on this bridge). he tailgated the shit out of me until the road widened, then he nearly ran over the guy on the bike while honking his horn at me and flipping me off. He tried to pass me (presumably so he could brake check me), I didn't let him though.
I've never had that happen in the E90 though. The E30 gets way more attention - the E90 is just another "new" BMW. I could throw a rock in any random direction and probably hit two of them.
as far as the E39 - sorry, but meh. It's a good cheap beater, but don't kid yourself that people are jealous of it..Comment

I have clear evidence and experience tells me there is at least one person in the world who lives in Citrus Heights, CA and drives a white mid-90s Chevy Venture that got miffed simply because I was driving a "new" BMW
Thanks for your input though, highly insightfulComment

I bet it probably was 90+% the way you were driving and less than 10% "new" BMW.
When you are twice your current age, you will probably look back and agree with me. She wanted to lash out at you verbally and chose the lowest hanging fruit, you are just another asshole in a BMW.Comment

My brother was with me in the car and I had passengers, and they all agreed the lady was out of line
You can infer everything you wish about my age, but the truth is what has been spoken and nothing more; I can't convince you of it unless you choose to believe
But I do agree with you: in 20 years from now, I will probably look back and remember this; the only problem is, I'll be remembering it as how 90% of the fault was that she was having a crumby day and 10% of it was because I was driving a "new" BMWComment

. oooo > BMW

I do still love E30's, and as soon as I am in a position to do so, I'd like to pick up a 318 and T/c it for ultimate mpg fun DD.
