My mom is an RMA at a clinic near my college and she says the same thing. She'll have some patients come in one week and then the next week she's notified that they've passed.

I respect people who work in the medical field.

death is the absence of life, or rather, the ending of life. "Another phase of life" is a bit misleading to those who don't know what it's like, or haven't at the very least witnessed it first hand.

If it means anything, I used to have a lot of people revving, trying to race me, and cutting me off when I first got the E30 in 2010 no matter how I drove. Granted, I was a little 18 year old in a BMW, but my dad said he experienced the same sort of thing when he drove it compared to our regular boring family SUV. After 2011 or so, I've noticed that kind of behavior went away, maybe it became more of an old car that people don't care so much about? The only real issue I experience today is people who don't check their mirrors and switch lanes in front of me doing about 20 mph less than I was previously. Not a big deal to go around them, and they never contest me.

BMWs after the E30 look more modern, and to some people an E46 looks only a few years old. Of course some people are going to feel inferior when they see a young guy in a car they think is worth 30k-50k+. Sucks they act like what that minivan driver did, but what can you do?

Get a dashcam and be done with it.

Death Race 2000 is awesome. I thank my step father for introducing it to me. I was born in 86, and if it weren't for him I would have never discovered it.

I think the new ones had to be staged in a Prison environment because our PC culture would absolutely shit themselves and cause a sudden CO2 raise that would bring about the end of the earth, if they featured 30 ederly people being set up in the road for road kill.

Strollers moms are at least 1000; if you hit a yoga stroller mom, that's 1000 and Double Points for the next minute.

by 2010 e30's were ancient. It was your crazy driving that promoted it.
Back in 2003 when I got my e30 first I thought the same thing, but I was also mistaken. It's because thsoe who drive e30's on lowered suspensions etc. all attract the attention...both good and bad (mostly bad tho)

I don't know, I know some of it is driving - but I definitely noticed a shift from negative attention to positive attention as the E30 got older. in 2002 people thought it was only a couple years old, so being a young man driving a BMW pisses them off. While now it's quite obvious that it was made a few decades ago, and usually the only thing that happens is I get thumbs up, waves, and offers to buy...

but at the same time, I don't really perceive anything in either our E90 or E91, which could be mistaken for being only a year or two old. maybe because they are so common that people don't care anymore.

Perhaps your age can contribute to a different experience? Just like how you mentioned that in 2002 when you had an e30 it was different then nowadays? Just like me being 23 possibly caused the lady to flare up; I wasn't necessarily driving bad or crazy, but just the fact I'm a young buck in a "modern" symbol of opulence hit the right (or wrong) triggers

I edited my OP to be a little more fair; the 2nd edit explains that I've noticed a distinct growth in the extremes of road behavior: both good and bad (and more so on the good side). Like I said; I've driven only e30s since pretty much me starting driving, and I was used to the praise and appreciation from enthusiasts and riff-raff alike that would love the car; in the e39, it's no different: I was just taken aback with how dramaticly the negative behavior shifted

This is also of course all based on demographics. Californian drivers are probably rated some of the most snootiest in the country, so that can play a huge contributing factor as well

I would say it's these two right here. As someone who moved from the west coast to the east coast, everyone I talk to is surprised to hear that Californians aren't as laid back as popular culture makes them out to be.

I don't get a lot of attention either way, but I do feel more like an individual driving this car than my gf's cookie-cutter brand new Jetta

I make enough dumb moves/oversights that I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. That, and if I stayed mad about dumb maneuvers I'd be mad all day. What really gets me is there's no way to correct people on the road: they're either oblivious or don't care. Oh, well.
I haven't actually noticed any flak about my beemers: maybe I wasn't paying attention.
Also, OP I second what you say about having a luxury car for less than a modern economy. Very nice.

That was the first fallacy I noticed about driving: there's no way to say hey, maybe don't act like you're 10 years old. It's quite possibly the bane of existence of our modern world

Also I 100% agree there's no point in being mad about something you can't control. It's been a personal goal for me to be less vindictive about stuff that doesn't matter
