Why does this seem so common among the US E30s? I don't think on any forum I'm on that Canadian E30 owners have this issue.

My original cluster went to over 23XXXX KM, and I onbly swapped beause my temp gauge was screwed. My second has gone from 23XXXXX to now over 411K km with ZERO issues.

I guess some of them are waiting to fix it right before selling the car. So they can claim its low mileage car. Not all, just some. I know few bastard that have done that.

+1, that was one of the first things I did when I got my E30, along with fixing the broken driver's door lock.

I've had my E30 for 4 years, and I've put about 12k on it, plus maybe 1-2k before I fixed the odo. I don't drive it in the winter, and it was broken all of last year, so it hasn't gotten as much use as I'd like.

I'm on track to hit about 18k in 2015, despite a month off the road. Its not holding up well to my 75 mile commute, I can't keep up. Mechanically its been fine since I redid the whole driveline and suspension, but I don't have the free time for upkeep on all the little stuff without it consuming me. Intending on selling it for an S2000 before spring.

I used to do 10-15k a year, but recently it's probably 1-2k a year. I don't think I've even driven 10k miles in the last year on any of my cars. I feel bad for people who have 2-3 hours of commuting every day.

yeah I work in a different state, although my commute isn't that long timewise, but it is an 80mile roundtrip commute daily. The tolls is what really kills me though which equates to $300/month on my ezpass.

Ive been fortunate because I always worried living in the LA area about the traffic. ~10 miles each way against traffic is cake.

its ridiculous, but what makes living in Staten Island in particular worse, is that when you drive off the island its free, but to get back home....you have to take one of 4 bridges (3 of which is $15 to cross, and the Verrazano which is like $17 now I think). These are bridges I'm forced to take daily

The worst part is the only reason I do it is because my entire work and personal life is in the city and just can't make enough money to live anywhere but a rented room in the far suburbs. Doing ANYTHING involves 2 hours in the car, usually in very heavy stop/go traffic, often I do it twice a day and its real hard on a car as old as an E30. I would do anything to afford a studio apartment in the city and avoid all of this, but then my car will just get destroyed sitting on the street with the lack of respect most people have in residential parking areas.

I don't really want to get rid of my E30, but if I don't its going to end up destroyed. Either by not having enough time for proper upkeep due to my insane commute, or rear-ended and totaled in heavy traffic.
