    A Lincoln with a BMW M21D24

I was doing research for my presentation on the M20 platform for college, and while I was digging around on E30zone's wiki, I found out there was a turbodiesel E30 I never knew about. Started searching for the motor and some more information.

Apparently Ford bought BMW's diesels and put them in their Lincoln Continentals as an alternative to their Windsor V8s.

Yep, it's reasonably well known in the community. Analogous to the Cavalier/Toyota cross over.

There is some sort of transmission cross over too that is a part of this engine/car package, but I cannot recall off hand.

You can still get a few select parts from Ford for the cars, but I doubt that it's anything major these days.

As an owner of an M21D24 in a 324td I'd like to state for the record that it's not the fastest or quietest stock engine out there. But it is economical and it's the only turbocharged E30 from the factory that I have heard of. Mine is also for sale.

I don't think they made a lot of those Lincolns. I've been looking since 1998, and have yet
                to see one.

There was ONE E30td, but it was wearing its rods on the outside, and I THINK the engine
                was from a 524, anyway...

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

There were not many and as I understand it they were so under powered that many were replaced to another engine. I met a guy a few years ago that had 5 of them that had been pulled that he had hoarded away with only a few thousand miles on them.

I didn't have the money at the time but wished I had picked them up.

It was a marketing experiment gone horribly wrong—but the thinking was sound. If German luxury-car makers sell diesel engines in premium automobiles, shouldn’t Lincoln? Taking no chances, Lincoln secured a suitable engine from BMW, and placed it in its two most-sophisticated vehicles, the Continental Sedan and the Mark VII coupe. 1985 Mark VII Turbodiesel Perhaps...
