TJ its been along time coming but we finally agree on something owners manual is RIGHT they built the fuckin thing and untill you drastically change the engine or the computer that controls the engine its still right

yup the straight RON octane rating gives a higher number desnt it. i think in the us and canada we use an average of the RIN and RON tests.

i guess everybody has an opinion on this but as far as i know running higher octane gas on an engine that doesnt need it is a waste of money unless the car is tuned to use the higher rating (or has a knock sensor)

I believe higher octane gas has less heat energy per pound but more heat energy per gallon

i think its average of MON and RON??

I think you are confused with diesel and ULP (unleaded petrol).

High Octane and normal octane have very similar density so there would not be and relative change in energy per mass compared to energy per volume.

However as i said since we buy by the volume when you buy a gallon of diesel you get more pounds of it than if you bought the same volume of petrol (gas) and this means you get more energy per gallon with diesel despite diesel having less energy per pound.

No real problems with it...car didn't feel any different. got about 100km less to a full tank tho :(

I believe our octane ratings (aus vs us) are slightly diff... like, 93 for US = 95 for AUS I believe... something like that.
I thought higher octane was supposed to increase gas mileage?

i would suggest that he was trying to see if it made any performance increases, and in doing so went WOT at every possible chance..........lol

If you love your car, switch to regular 87. Excess octane will soak the carbon deposits inside any engine and lead to detonation or even pre-ignition.

                              From http://www.chevron.com/products/prod...rgas/8_q-a/#11

                              1. What octane gasoline should I use in my vehicle?
For starters, use a gasoline with the AKI or RON recommended by your owner's manual. (A rule of thumb is that the RON of a gasoline equals the AKI + 5.) Using gasoline with an antiknock rating higher than that required to prevent knock will not improve a vehicle's performance, including its power, unless the vehicle is equipped with a knock sensor (see below).

                              (Bold added by me)

M20's nor M10's have knock sensors.
